Do you think there is a relationship between a persons taste in music & intelligence?

He found that the smartest students listened to Beethoven and the students who rung in at the bottom of the SAT scores listened to Lil’ Wayne.

Take it how you want to take it. I personally don't believe the SAT is an accurate measure of intelligence, but I do believe there is a point to all this.

Thats all he found, there is nothing to take from it other than that...anything else is just opinion.

the same graph shows that people who listen to Ludacris scored higher on the SAT than those who listened to classical music.

So Beethoven>Weezy

but Luda> Classical Music?

or did you miss that?

It's indicative of high intelligence I think, but a lot of dumb people listen to "quality" music and a hell of a lot of graduates couldn't give two shyts about music.

IQ is a VERY dubious metric by the way.

Sad that some here have fallen prey to the myth that real instruments = superior/"higher end"/more intelligent music. In some cases it takes more skill but then again it takes more skill to take a shyt on the ceiling than to solve calculus problems :comeon:.

Music like Limp Bizkit, Kiss, Nickelback and Motley Crue is not more intelligent than Talib Kweli. A lot of rock is just repetitive power chords and a neanderthal screaming/half singing over top of them. Obviously a lot isn't and there's a ton of garbage hip-hop out there but the point is that style hardly determines how "intelligent" the music is. Substance/content matters most.

I'd say the diversity of your musical catalog links to your intelligence. The president is familiar with rap and probably classical music as well.

Bam. :obama: :whew:

I think that to a certain degree that the type of music u listen to does determine the level of intellegence of certain individuals. BUT in my case I like all types of music. I like some of the most ignorant/ratched rap possible, seriously! but I still love talib, common, mos def, roots, dead prez. I listen to jazz, house, r&b, I appeciate classical, contemporary rock all genres. I attribute this to bein well versed and exposed to various types of music, cultures, demographics. Its all about balance:myman:

People that only listen to 1 kind of music are ignorant, not necessarily not intelligent. You have to listen to everything to know what you like.

I think there is more of a correlation along these lines as well.

I think it's pretty common knowledge that if you're just in a silly/stupid mood and you put on some sort of pop song, ignorant rap track, etc. you check your brain at the door and have fun.

But if I'm sitting around in a contemplative mood and have a lot of stuff on my mind, I'm going to listen to something much more complex, deeper trip-hop, and most likely something instrumental.

Radiohead will always beat out Lil Wayne at certain top schools because they actually have complex lyrics with meaning. It takes someone who is a bit of a deep thinker to gravitate to Radiohead and prefer their music. Its not about race, genre, or being a hipster.

You going too far now.
