It saddens me that black people are in here downplaying the significance of our music in the face of American (outdated) intelligence standards. We's off the plantation guys. You don't have to down play your culture to explain to SAT/IQ scores (things that are irrelevant/outdated measures of intelligence).
The black inferiority complex is strong in here.
Trust, there are a lot more reasons why black people aren't listening to Beethoven and such. And trust that music choice has nothing to do with intelligence level.

No, it doesn't. I listen to whatever I enjoy, plain and simple. My iPhone has everything from Pac to Simon and Garfunkel to 2 Chainz to Buddy Guy to Michael Jackson and James Brown and almost everything in between.
If you want my honest opinion, I think dumb nikkas dominate listening to smart music. I say that because they quote shyt from the songs like it's 100% truth.

anyone that actively listens to nikki minaj...lil wayne...ke$ha... etc automatically gets the idiocy stamp from me whether it's true or not that's just how i'm gonna perceive you off the bat. i'm not talking about bobbing your head to it at a party if it comes on. that's no biggie. i'm talking about buying it ...reciting the lyrics....being a genuine fan of it type deal. but i've always been pretentious and snobby when it comes to musical taste.

I listen to everything from the most ignorant rap/trap to the most complex experimental John Cage-ish type stuff. This argument that listening to certain muic makes one intelligent/unintelligent is the biggest crock of shyt I've ever heard. It's made by elitist culture johns to proport an agenda and essentially shyt all over black music as low brow music for idiots.
I would argue this with my professors in college in media studies classes. They would have this infograph/display called "the culture scale" (in that scale, they put ballet, classical, opera at the top and rap, monster trucks, etc at the bootom) and I would tell them the exact same thing I said here and more and they would just try to drown me out cause they weren't hearing it and refused to. I don't buy into that elitist garbage.
