It saddens me that black people are in here downplaying the significance of our music in the face of American (outdated) intelligence standards. We's off the plantation guys. You don't have to down play your culture to explain to SAT/IQ scores (things that are irrelevant/outdated measures of intelligence).

The black inferiority complex is strong in here. :mjpls:

Trust, there are a lot more reasons why black people aren't listening to Beethoven and such. And trust that music choice has nothing to do with intelligence level.

Any female who recognizes Nas as the G.O.A.T. is special........

Any female who thinks Jay-z is (excluding those from Brooklyn) are not

Im not really the person to call someone dumb, as no one is truly smart. But I just been thinking, and noticed that alot of the "slower" people tend to listen to dumbass ABC watered down music(roscoe dash cashn out) shyt like that. Im talking about people who would rather bump soulja boy than 2pac Nas or Cube.

Do you think they are dumb or they are just followers?

Your logic implies that not only does (1) correlation imply causation, but (2) music is an intelligent entity. These are two farfetched suggestions that are nothing shy of senseless. There is nothing dumb about music, regardless of who has composed it. Music could be meaningless to you but mean the world to someone else. Secondly, correlation does NOT imply causation; it only suggests that there is a common denominator. 1/4 and 2/4 have the common denominators but certainly demonstrate different values.

Now, to answer your question, I do not think they are dumb for listening to a particular selection of music. Their decision could have been influenced, but that does not necessarily mean that they are following someone else's lead. There were studies focused on the relationship between music and a person's ability to reason and solve problems (i.e., classic music quickly increases IQ and punk rock degenerates it; both because of the frequencies produced), but a person with a lower IQ than a person with a higher one is not less intelligent. They may not be able to reason as well as the person with the higher IQ, but they are still smart, nonetheless.

Your brain is an organic computer and streaming nothing but garbage non stop has to have some kind of affect. Do you want your son/daughter listening to this shyt when they're 5 years old, or would classical or at the very least positive music be better? Most of rap/hip hop is straight trash, yeah it's catchy when you're in the club or gym, but who honestly sits around with some headphones on during their down time listening Waka.

It's funny, we have the most destructive form of music as a whole, and look where we are as a community :mjpls: No correlation there either?

:stopitslime:

First of all what is considered straight trash to some is not considered that by all.

Second, there is so many things wrong about comparing what a 5 year old influences and an adult influences

Third, lets just ignore 400 years of slaverly, institutionalized and systematic racism and just say the problems in our community have something to do with our music

While also ignoring the fact that white America is the biggest customer for said music

Radiohead will always beat out Lil Wayne at certain top schools because they actually have complex lyrics with meaning. It takes someone who is a bit of a deep thinker to gravitate to Radiohead and prefer their music. Its not about race, genre, or being a hipster.

radiohead??? :dead: please stop.

and that data with the sat/iq sources and the college data is flawed. there's so much things wrong with it right there. you can't always rely on these research studies because they leave out important, crucial factors that most definitely would alter the result. there's tons of examples. the simplest one could be that the person that may listen to beethoven may have had kaplan prep courses to help them get that high sat score. plus that person might listen to other genres of music as well.

if you really want to put this logic to the test, let them do a research on sat, iq, and etc with daily activities that we do on the regular and you'll see how bullshyt this thing is. they know that it would be stupid to do a research on sat scores and the foods that people eat, sat scores and the number of car accidents that people get in, sat scores and the tv shows that people watch, sat scores and the video games that people play BECAUSE you can't determine someone's intelligence off of that shyt. you can't. there's plenty of idiots that listen to beethoven that probably don't know how to do their time tables. there's plenty of lil wayne listens that are fukking geniuses.

if you want to know if someone is intelligent, they let their brain through their thoughts, actions, and etc speak for itself. there's more than one form of intelligence. there's many aspects of intelligences. an sat score and iq test can't measure how smart someone is or what someone knows. a smart person doesn't have to do things to give the impression that they're smart. there's a difference between acting like you're smart and actually being smart. there's plenty of people that do stupid things that are fukking geniuses in some shape or form. there's plenty of idiots that actually are in top positions. look @ george w. bush.

I like happy, peaceful music. Marvin Gaye mid 70's, Isley's, Earth Wind and Fire, and I love soul R&B music like Jodeci, Boyz II Men, etc. I like what I am personally speaking. When it comes to Hip Hop, I was started on the Roots, Ras Kass, 2pac, and then move to Biggie, Puffy, and Mase and so on from there. Hip Hop is more for fun and friends. R&B and peaceful music is for me. Even if it's not R&B but it's impactful, I will still like it.

As far as intelligence, I do not think ones taste tell you a lot about that person but it doesn't tell you what their vibes are. I notice a trend at ladies I really date seriously not getting into music till HS. Many still watch cartoons.

i hate when I see a good thread but it was posted when i was gone and blew up to 10+ pages :smh:

I will say this though, music definitely tells meabout a person's character ...not intelligence per se

I have said repeatedly that I do not believe the data is 100% accurate or valid and that I personally do not believe that SAT is a good measure of intelligence because there are many types of intelligence, but everyone ignores that and keeps trying to break down the article.

I posted the graph because I believe he has a point, not that his data was perfect or accurate. And YES Radiohead has complex lyrics and requires a bit of deep thinking.

My point is not that people who listen to Lil Wayne are dumb. It is that people who primarily listen to songs with simple lyrics and instrumentation may not be deep thinkers, which I have said earlier. I don't know any "idiots" who primarily listen to Beethoven or any geniuses who primarily listen to Lil Wayne. Most intelligent people listen to both or lean more towards the more complex songs.
