We got this locked now, pure official, white crystal
The hypo get you before the snipe from the pistol
It's potent, just one whiff'll have you floatin
Hot and soakin, while I'm sellin, y'alls is smokin
Forever shinin, but strictly thru diamond's prominent
and dining with wealthy, old dime bytches rich as from cosignin
And Gold and American, Visa Charge-card, hold while I'm rollin
Affliated with hoes that is just bonin
So knowledge me, and analyse all of my qualities
You've crossed all apologies, my lifetime policy
Plus playin for keeps in these New York streets
It get deep so hold heat, and try and control your sleep
Cos umm, the life I live is deeper than the Mississippi Rivers
Me and my nikkas only drivin what a ride give us
Puffin lye, gettin high til we die
So fukk it, whatever nikka try, violate and fry

To bad the beat makes me think of bails of hay and pastures.

A hindsight classic for sure... but it has held up pretty well considering.

In retro, this is a great album. In real time, it was one of many decent albums that had dropped at the time. Had a good lead-off with the single in the summer, and then proceeded to come and go that fall. I do think the album's better than it was to me back then, I don't know if I'd say flawless.

The OG 'Your World Don't Stop' was waaaay better than the album version. 'I Feel For You' can go, so can 'We Can't Win'... 'Doe or Die' the title track sounds better now than it did then, but eh. And then the 'Sugar Hill' remix was weak... not that every song has to be a 5/5, but to be "flawless", it kinda does. It has its flaws, but it's a much better album in retro.

It's a bit shy of great IMO.

You're crazy

Pete turned a Minnie riperton sample into 3 minutes of classy grimy rap..

But I feel you. The beat could have been manipulated more

Like here

But in my opinion it was perfect the way it was

There's a Rap Pages issue from 1995 that has this on its Most Dissapointing Albums Ever list because of how AZ's street poetry was hit and miss and was short of being Illmatic.

Dumbest shyt I ever read

But then again I'm 99% sure people who listened to it when it first came out...were expecting it to be Illmatic 2 of some sorts..keep in mind this was before It Was Written came out, so Nas was still the lyrical street poet..so I understand how they might not have cared for it...

But listening to this years later as its own individual project, do what it was, without any expectations, it immediately became my top rap 10 albums ever.

I will say Pete rock should have produced the entire project though..like it was originally intended

Gimme yours is the second best rap song ever to me

Gimme yours, features the go to hook melody style of not being able to actually sing.
That nas should get credit for, but is never given proper credit for.

Then, again mostly all of nas's fans were not a fan or cognitive of nas.
So, they front like they know about it.
While acting like experts.
Then, showing they know nuffin about the guy they Stan.

I mentioned this weeks ago when some dudes were saying how Ja Rule started the singing rapping thing

Nas on Gimme Yours was literally the first time it was done to my knowledge

Or maybe snoop on stranded on death row..but then again that wasn't a chorus

Nasir didn't even drop a verse... personally I prefer this version because of better chorus vocals
