Gimme yours, features the go to hook melody style of not being able to actually sing.
That nas should get credit for, but is never given proper credit for.

Then, again mostly all of nas's fans were not a fan or cognitive of nas.
So, they front like they know about it.
While acting like experts.
Then, showing they know nuffin about the guy they Stan.

underrated cuz it was illmatic or bust for AZ.

ridiculous expectations = the downside of '90s rap.

It did not have to be illmatic or bust.
It just needed to be better than rather unique still being the best track and that was the b side, on the first single.
Do or die suffered from what rtd did.
The best record was on an opening debut bside.
It just so happened the remix to one mo chance was a monsta.

There's a Rap Pages issue from 1995 that has this on its Most Dissapointing Albums Ever list because of how AZ's street poetry was hit and miss and was short of being Illmatic.

Dumbest shyt I ever read

But then again I'm 99% sure people who listened to it when it first came out...were expecting it to be Illmatic 2 of some sorts..keep in mind this was before It Was Written came out, so Nas was still the lyrical street poet..so I understand how they might not have cared for it...

But listening to this years later as its own individual project, do what it was, without any expectations, it immediately became my top rap 10 albums ever.

I will say Pete rock should have produced the entire project though..like it was originally intended

Gimme yours is the second best rap song ever to me

I NEVER knew this:krs: why didn't it happen?

9 times out of 10 it was because the label didnt think an entirely Pete Rock produced LP would move enough units to compete with the other rap stars that year....the Pete Rock produced LPs by INI and Deda were shelved for this very reason i think...they were released years later
