The soundtrack was so dope most people associate Vietnam with a war before they think of it as a country

Even this nikka Smokey and Jackie chan had to sing to the soundtrack to show there's no reason for black people and Chinese to be fighting eachother mayne, the war created good music

^ Oh mother, tell your children, not to doooooooo what IIIIIII have done! Such a POWERFUL song. It's an old folk song of some kind and while there are many versions I can't even lie, this is my favorite.

^ This song was actually considered sort of an anthem for US troops. I don't give a shyt about US troops then or now, but it's a cool factoid. Cute little song but still has a tinge of naughtiness.

^ The go-to Vietnam song? Probably the first song I think about when I think about that war. I remember like 10 years ago, I was playing this Vietnam war game where they had a cover of this song. Obviously, they couldn't secure the real Hendrix rights, but the song was so important to establishing the time period that they decided to just go with a knock-off anyways....

That whole time period betweeeeeeeeeen....1955-1975...is probably the most fascinating in WORLD history for me.

While the war itself was vicious and evil from a moral perspective (As are all forms of colonialism), from an academic standpoint...it's actually pretty damn inspirational. The NVA and Viet-Cong kicking the United States out of the country through force of WILL alone....:banderas: Can't rate those armies enough. People don't realize....the United States pretty much conceded on any sort of sophisticated strategy in Vietnam...the strategy eventually became that of utter death and destruction. They literally thought they would just kill enough Vietnamese that the North would just surrender. They thought they would shatter their resolve....but they didn't count on those brave men having more GUT than this spineless country. I love it. And Ho Chi Minh was a legend....:salute:

The House of the Rising Sun was an old folk song rewritten by Dylan. It's about a prostitute and the House of the Rising Sun is a whorehouse.

Didn't know the US troops considered the Nancy Sinatra song an anthem. Cool fact. I'll have to remember that.

So All Along the Watchtower in that game was a cover of a cover? That's a Dylan original.

CCR's Have You Ever Seen the Rain (On a Sunny Day) always struck me as a anti-war song, but apparently it's about John Fogerty's brother quitting the band.

The threadstarter is probably right, but look at the amount of original talent back then as opposed to songs like "We'll Meet Again" or some of the Iraq War material.

That's kind of what I meant by Vera Lynn.

I should rewrite that as, "We'll Meet Again."
Yea, the Big Band and swing era :ohlawd:
Right up there with classic jazz. Im not a music fan, and rarely listen unless im trying to pass some time, but them
old-timey hits cannot be beaten.
