The North should of came down hard on the South after the Civil War and they didn't. We should have taken reconstruction after the first civil war serious back then and they didn't. Like voting rights? Sure.. but to actually put those measures on the table and get the votes needed to pass is another story altogether. it's not that Democrats don't see this happening on a state level.. everyone sees it. Dems could end the Filibuster in the Senate. Then they will only need 51 votes to pass legislation. They have Voter Rights bills on the table that would counter the GOP state voter suppression Bills. Biden is not fighting to end the Filibuster.

Dems could expand the Supreme Court to nullify the Conservative advantage. They are trying to expand the Court.

Dems can't continue to blame Conservatives when they currently have the power to stop this stuff!

Manchin and Sinema are Democratic Senators but how often do they vote alongside the party is what matters. Manchin especially doesn't vote with Dems on several issues and he is one along with Sinema who refuse to budge on the filibuster at this point in time.

I don't even know where to begin here. I quoted a few posters originally, but decided not to respond because their takes were so idiotic it didn't warrant a response.

For all of our issues as a country, we do not want a civil war. Most of us are not built for that, and moreover those far right rednecks have been planning for that scenario for decades. Look at Bosnia and Kosovo in 90's for a look at what civil war would be here on a much greater scale.

We shouldn't throw our hands up and say we don't care if Trump or Biden is in power; they are not one in the same. I'm on record saying Biden was a shytty politician, candidate and president and pretty much anyone he ran against on the democratic side would've made a better president.

I'm not saying dude is Hitler or Stalin, he's to stupid for that. But he's setting up a system so whoever his successor is to be much more sinister than him; Trump has had Steve Bannon and Steven Miller in the white house and actively dog whistles and aligns with people that hate you. That's how civil wars start.

Its amazing how we even have civil war in our vernacular. Talk of civil war would have been met with accusations of being hyperbolic and fear mongering less than 2 or 3 years ago. Now it doesn't seem so crazy. The Jan 6th Coup attempt and the pandemic has really exposed just how fragile our institutions are.

In many ways the Biden administration is the calm before the storm. So far I am not impressed at all with how the administration is handling those behind the coup attempt. I don't have much faith in Merrick Garland to put any of these criminals behind bars. The Democratic party just doesn't seem up to task to counteract this growing fascist insurgency. Any legislation thay counteracts Republican voter suppression is obstructed by Manchin and Sinema. Its so ridiculous.

Bottom line is the Republicans know this is their last chance to cling on to power. The demographics of this country are changing and young people are becoming more progressive. Once they gain power, it wont be as simple as just voting them out. Its going to take massive civil disobedience, which of course they'll use as a pretext for further authoritarianism.

The fact of the matter is, however, that Black people did not until 1964. So, your criticism is moot, anachronistic, and an argument from emotion.
