Thanks for making this thread. I keep telling my fam that seriously we need to plan to exit the country. We talk about how serious the threat is and then we go back to our usual day-to-day bullshyt.

My life circumstances make it pretty tough for me to pull off actually leaving because my children are split between my home and my ex's and my girl's job is pretty important and would have ripple effects if she left but I seriously would like to get the fukk OUT.

Canada is probably the easiest quick solution. I need to stop BSing because one day when we least expect it, shyt is going to get real

If there is a successful coup in the US, Canada is done. Some mid west general would look north and see the lumber, fish, and unlimited water and land and take us over. We wouldn't have the protection of the US, and Russia would rape our North, if not China. Toronto might be ok, but Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta would be toast. shyt most people there would just welcome it anyways.

Your coworker that you were discoursing with actually made an excellent point with contrasting those careers. Just because you've failed to disprove his argument does not make his argument "retarded". Why would an individual spend 10 years of their life studying to become doctor (or any other respectful and demanding profession), when they can simply be a janitor and make the same amount of money? If our society was ran like that, we'd have significantly less doctors and even more problems than we already have. It's common sense. Im gonna keep this short and sweet because typing this is a lot of work: comparing the wages of two different professions without the context of how society would change before those wages would ever be adjusted. On top of that, why would the two have the aame wage? It was an extreme example meant to deflect a point I never made. The main reason we indulge ourselves in consumerism is because we are groomed from birth to consume. Its not unusual for me to speak with a right-leaning person and extremes are all they spew. The example should be: why work as a cashier when I can get more for warehouse work? real talk, if you look at the most silly posts that have been made on this thread thus far you can surmise that, that is the sentiment of most Americans. I am getting my passport ready and telling my loved ones to do the same. I don't want to live under a right wing authoritarian regime.

The writing is all on the wall for those that cannot see. It was as clear as day leading up to Jan 6th. And now with all the voter suppression laws and the Biden Admins failure to hold these criminals accountable, its pretty clear where were headed.

Republicans will win back the house in 2022 and try to impeach Biden. Biden will be even more ineffective because he doesn't have enough votes to pass any legislation. The economy will continue to stagnate. Enough stupid Americans will vote for Donald Trump or someone worse in 2024. And all voter suppression laws and obstructions by Republicans will assist in this process. And then we'll no longer be a in functioning democracy.
And at point the only pathway forward is civil conflict.

I agree. Barring some economic miracle, this is a perfect storm for fascism. When I saw the articles about heating prices being up double digits and the supply-chain disruption/inflation lasting into 2022, I knew it was a wrap. A significant number of Americans are too stupid to understand how the world around them works and will just go "PS5s are still hard to get and going for $1K+, gas is expensive, and a democrat's president. Man fukk the democrats."

Black people, who've been saving this country from itself for generations now as a political buffer, are going to sit this one out because of black voter exhaustion. I'll vote, but I can't blame us. Corporate interests are driving Conservative Democrats (we need to stop calling them moderates) to protect the status quo (anti-filibuster reform, anti-social program expansion) and either can't see the cliff we're about to drive off of, or don't care.

Our adversaries have the playbook for injecting fake news and discord into the social & political discourse. Not to mention $ and potentially training for radical elements.

Me and my girl have been talking immigration (political asylum, really) to Canada or Mexico for a minute. We're starting to legitimately research our options because it's going to get very fukked up here over the next decade barring a miracle.
