Does anyone else think therapy is a scam?

Ngl, I was thinking just yesterday that this whole "Go to therapy" thing being pushed everywhere is starting to sound like one. NOT that I'm shytting on actual therapists nor people who go to therapy (I went some time myself and might go again), but the way it's pushed as some kind of answer to everything feels kind of strange. Sounds like the latest individualistic "answer" to structural societal issues. Also, one that is not available to everyone due to its cost.

My girl is a therapist. Actually my 2 longest relationships were with therapists, but I’ve never gone to one myself.

I don’t think it’s for everyone but it’s good they’re out there for people who decide they need it

If the person actually knows what they're doing it's not. Talking to uncle ray ray ain't the same as someone who is an expert at psychology/ human behavior
As someone who has been going through this for years with a family member I can tell u there are good therapists and bad ones and it takes a good bit of knowledge/experience to discern the difference

I agree. I don't think it's meant for the general population. It serves a purpose for legitimately crazy people who need psychotherapy, but the general population is getting snake oil.

But a lot of the public demand is artificial . from private equity and VC firms which realized they could capitalize on getting more people on therapy, while they conveniently own the brick and mortar therapy practices and own online mega firms like "Better Help". It's honestly sickening. And then the people who volunteer themselves don't realize they're being manipulated by billionaires.

These private equity billionaires ran huge online, social media, tv , and radio campaigns promoting therapy in a similar way to how the Sackler family promoted Oxycodone and Percocets to a wider market that didn't need it.

The Truth
No

I think the therapist does matter though.

Have someone actually get paid to give you advice (that most won’t take anyway) instead of wasting someone else's time.

Thats only if you are a repeat offender of this though. Having trustworthy family and friends is always helpful.

But some shyt people REALLY need to sort through and/or to let go to move forward. Like the porno girl for example, who got delay-triggered by something a dude said and started throwing things a few weeks ago.

Those type of people can use therapy and I’m not being funny. Everyone she might actually try to talk to would either gas her up, trauma bond, or not offer constructive help to her at all.
