Yeah I’ve always thought it was a scam. Therapists charge per session so it’s in their best interest to keep a number of patients coming back

As a whole it isn't, but it's one of those fields where it's conductive to scam/abuse.

Kind like motivational speeches/books aren't scam in themselves but it's really easy to scam and bs your way in that field.

Same therapy wise but not to that degree obviously. You actually need some medical/psych background and people skills. Stay away from online services that do that tho. Those are pretty much scams with unqualified people or bots.

Therapy doesn’t “cure” you, but a good therapist will help give you exercises on how to deal with situations. It’s helped me understand the genesis of my behaviors and how to deal with them. And sometimes, you need someone to talk to outside of family and friends that gives another opinion. But like some people say, it’s kind of like finding a good barber, you may have to go through a few until you find one you relate with. Thankfully with the insurance I got, the co-pay is cheap.

Therapists are just people, which means therapy is ripe for exploitation like anything else

I think it's value for the average person is way inflated and has become a class signifier if anything else

If your therapist is out here doing Reikki and that other bs,they're definitely a scammer/stupid and not to be trusted. Found out a therapist has been encouraging a loved one's delusions with that BS and it solidified my feelings on this

And this is coming from someone who has been to multiple therapists over the years

1) You have to find the RIGHT THERAPIST. Like with anything else, If your therapist is SKILLED and DEDICATED to being good at their job. .BONUS if they can relate to you ( and this is where we usually run into big problems as Black men because there are very few doctors that can relate to us.)

2) I personally believe everyone needs some form of therapy in their life and that the MAJORITY of people suffer from some form of mental anguish or mental health problem.

Everyday I see people online and in real life do psycho stuff and think it's normal. :dahell:

And yes I'm talking to YOU. I would advise anyone reading this to seek help for their trauma.

Find a therapist that is good and relatable.

It is but some people need to be scammed.

No different than some men needing strippers and prostitutes to validate them. Even though they are only doing it for the money. Somehow some men feel better about themselves coming out of the hotel with a sweaty brow. Or out of the strip club with their pants sticky. They feel like they are doing something, and that may be what saves them:respect:

I don’t think it’s a scam.

I think most people don’t need it as much as society seems to push it these days.

My guess is that therapy works one of two ways.

1. They listen to you as you talk yourself into solving your own problem.

2. They ask you questions so you can solve your own problem.

I don’t think any good therapist is sitting there saying “you need to do THIS”.

I’m always wary of anyone on this planet who thinks they know what’s gonna fix and fulfill another person.

That said, and this may be contradictory…
I think there’s a massive issue with young people today where they self-diagnose themselves on a variety of things. And they don’t know what the fukk they’re talking about.

“I’m gluten intolerant”
“I have anxiety”
“I’m OCD”

No. You don’t. And no you’re not.
Shut the fukk up.
