Does anyone else think therapy is a scam?

Of course you wouldn't understand... What the fukk you think family and close friends are for.....?

Just because someone is a family member or friends means that they are equip to have the skills or even know how to advice another person on how to handle their issues. Thats why there are licensed clinical therapists. Passing around trauma isn't cool at all.

It fukking pisses me off when I think about it because these people will usually act like the person that theyre telling their problems and is listening to them has the answer. Its like what do you want me to tell you. Im not a professional. In fact, anybody that isn't a trained professional that doesnt tell you to get therapy or help if theyre dumping some heavy loaded issues onto someone else isn't genuinely looking out for you.

Way too many people get into their egos when it comes to mental health and they shouldn't be. How someone treats themselves in terms of self care shows how much they really love themselves. I wouldnt expect anybody who neglects their mental health to care about their physical body either because it all ties together. Mental health is just as serious as physical health. You have people that literally lose their minds and just quit life where they start finding forever and go missing. You see them on the streets literally homeless or whatever.

And dont wait until its too late. You can gradually lose your mind, have that one psychosis moment and never come back where you believe you're a whole different person and arent even sure of what your life is. Take care of your mental health and overall health.

I agree. I don't think it's meant for the general population. It serves a purpose for legitimately crazy people who need psychotherapy, but the general population is getting snake oil.

But a lot of the public demand is artificial . from private equity and VC firms which realized they could capitalize on getting more people on therapy, while they conveniently own the brick and mortar therapy practices and own online mega firms like "Better Help". It's honestly sickening. And then the people who volunteer themselves don't realize they're being manipulated by billionaires.

These private equity billionaires ran huge online, social media, tv , and radio campaigns promoting therapy in a similar way to how the Sackler family promoted Oxycodone and Percocets to a wider market that didn't need it.

Hmm not only those people. I'm not gonna throw away the whole thing because of the "scam" part. Every single human activity will have people taking advantage of other people and instrumentalizing a legit thing for a quick buck. Indeed there's a lot of articial created "demand", but it's not only "crazy" people who can and do benefit from therapy. There's a whole array of "normal" people who can and do. And no just talking to friends/family isn't always enough. Plus they got their own shyt to deal with.

That being said I'm not sure what the last two paragraphs are really about because I'm in Belgium, and over here therapists aren't part of firms or whatever and there are no campaigns promoting therapy. I was talking about individuals on social media telling people to go to therapy, mostly women telling that to men, to the point it's become the "Men will do (insert crazy activity) instead of going to therapy" meme. Which is also lowkey condescending but whatever.

You see it, I always lend an ear to those that come to me but I also advise them to go and talk to a professional. I notice how they always have some form of negative reaction to that.

People rarely think about what dumping heavy stuff on others does to that person, I understand you want to talk but, damn did you think about what that info would do to me.

Therapy shouldn't just be something you go and do and move on with your day. A lot of people use therapy to get all their issues out but don't use it to actually improve on what has been revealed through their sessions. Some therapists just aren't a right fit for a myriad of reasons e.g. they're new, they don't mesh with your personally or culturally etc.

You have a coach or trainer for the sport/gym you play and they can't deal with you every minute of the day. But if the only time you work on your craft is when you're in their presence you won't improve as much as you could if you put in the effort outside of it. Watching film, writing down ideas, setting up plans for your week. Same idea with a mentor. Teacher. Doctor. Nutritionist.

I honestly have been essentially playing therapist for the jobs I've worked for years as well with friends, family, relationships. shyt is tiring listening to people's issues and suggesting things to improve on while dealing with your own shyt. I always suggest they find a good(preferably with higher credentials, more time in the field and culturally similar) therapist to work with because it's a good supplement.

Real Hoes are great listeners ironically
thats why I quoted what I quoted

if you consider each word as a prostitute this story will make sense

what is seen visually and what is heard verbally about each written word
it might not be random chance that the saudis are into wrestling

Therapy can greatly help people who have reasonably good lives and need a change of perspective. The people who need more than that can also benefit from therapy, but it's on the bottom of their priorities list.

Ngl, I was thinking just yesterday that this whole "Go to therapy" thing being pushed everywhere is starting to sound like one. NOT that I'm shytting on actual therapists nor people who go to therapy (I went some time myself and might go again), but the way it's pushed as some kind of answer to everything feels kind of strange. Sounds like the latest individualistic "answer" to structural societal issues. Also, one that is not available to everyone due to its cost.
