I think this is a dumb argument to make, but I've seen it mentioned a number of times (not about Nas, just in general). Freestyling and making songs are two mutually exclusive areas of hip hop. Sure some guys can do both pretty well, but I don't think someone has to be able to do both and I don't hold it against them if they can't. They're just two unique talents that are separate from one another. Guys that are the best at freestyling can't always make the best songs - guys like Juice and Supernatural are ridiculous at freestyling, but when they try to put out songs they're wack.
Plus they serve two completely different purposes for the listener. Freestyle you just want to be wowed while listening to someone spitting off the top of their head and hear some witty lines. But you're not going to be blasting freestyles in you car or anything. You don't have to be wowed with songs necessarily, you just want something that sounds dope.
Pac couldn't freestyle, his shyt was obviously pre-written whenever he supposedly freestyled. But I don't listen to Pac for his freestyles so I couldn't care less.
Plus even your dude Eminem who has been able to do both isn't even 100% a great freestyler. There's been numerous times where he's re-used lines or used pre-written stuff (and really a lot of freestylers have done these things too).

Of course, who wouldn't look forward to a Hip Hop staple freestyling or doing something outside of their studio work. Besides, Nas already proved he could freestyle, off the top at that. I'm sure he's even better at it now, because he had so many years to cultivate his craft.
