Yes, yes it does. For all Obama's and Hiliary's(and Sanders') faults electing a republican president at the moment would a calamity. Dozens of millions would lose healthcare, the post office would be sold, infrastructure would rot further, food stamps would be cut to the bone, TANF(which is pure shyt already) would likely be reformed even worse, Medicare would almost certainly be cut heavily, social security might even be privatized.

On foreign policy I don't think electing a reasonable republican would be that much worse than electing Hiliary or another Obama term. I fully expect large scale intervention in Syria(or Iraq or Afghanistan) out of anyone who's elected president next regardless of serious changes in the situation or someone like Paul or Sander's magically getting elected.

But to get back to the domestic politics, electing a republican would be effectively allowing a far right reactionary party to have complete control over the political process. You'll probably get fukked by a Clinton presidency, but it's not close to the kind of ruin a Bush or Carson or Rubio or Cruz could bring about.

Its worrying that guys are pointing to republicans like that's gonna be a dramatic shift and some kind of justification. So the only two real possibilities are covert corporate/imperial interest or full retard? Both of those as a primary factor negate civil liberty dramatically.

Saying we're in a better place concerning incarceration, for example, is misrepresentative of the situation as a whole, and theres many who'd agree that we're heading in the wrong direction at a worrying rate.

The whole system is diseased and corrupt. It won't fix itself, the wealthy and powerful havent become so by removing the corruption. Every time it becomes blatantly obvious, we allow those in power to investigate theirselves.

Some believe this is a surefire way to stay in control and remain pacified in a utopia of free porn, cheap gadgets and fast food. Others realise we're way too advanced and protected to be challanged unless we eventually force someones hand via our current methods. In fact the power the select few in our nation hold could be used for so much good.

But where there's profit, there's deficit. So the 1% has no interest in bettering the situation for the 99%. Any president that tries will have their funding pulled or end up like JFK.
