Trump’s tariffs hit, and the fallout is everywhere: John Deere layoffs, Pepsi hiking prices 10%, Sony jacking PS5s up $50, and electric bills already 10% higher this year.

I have a feeling we've only just begun...😑

@msGrassharp
Yes, all true.

@AnatoliUkraine
Brutal.
Trump’s “deal maker” act left Americans with pink slips, $50 pricier PS5s, and soaring bills.

He didn’t beat China.
He just broke us.

MAGA’s America First policies are really corporations first, consumers last. Tariffs don’t punish foreign countries, they punish Americans, raising costs and costing jobs. This is what happens when economic theater replaces smart policy.

You understand that’s paid by other countries, right?

@jamiedupree
You might want to check your priors on that.

@Complicated_H8
I have yet to see a tax increase bc of tariffs. I do see food, rent and energy continuing to increase though, but it's not tariff related.

7/32
@jamiedupree
The tariff is the tax. It is levied on the companies which import goods into the United States.

8/32
@PUFDean
You people cheer for Trump's failure just because its him. A tariff is not automatically a tax on us as you've been led to believe by other ignorant people. Yes, in some cases prices get raised to compensate, but the mechanism makes more than we lose and will make an economic environment here that is conducive to business. As a result, many businesses will move here and produce here, creating jobs and lowering costs for us and them. Stop perpetuating lies because you desire Trump to fail.

9/32
@jamiedupree
So what do you call the tariff payments that a U.S. company has to pay to on their imports? A fee?

10/32
@mdotjacks25
Conservatives completely sold out all their principles. 😂

@DeathBlazer96
The companies are paying the tax and eating the cost so they can maintain sales volume.

Trump is literally taxing the rich and you retards are complaining.

@CHARLES00370220
What was the monthly deficit? How much was our borrowing cost?

Very minimal increases. The exporting countries absorb most of the costs of the tariff because they still want to sell in America.

25/32
@Not_Sure2015
Impressive. You’ve been covering congress since 1986 according to your profile and you still don’t understand how economics work

26/32
@baggy615
Tariffs are not taxes. It’s a good thing to not be taken advantage of by every other country in the world. Surplus is good. Deficit bad. You’ll catch up one day Jamie.

Based on the replies here, we see how reality (tariffs are taxes on American consumers) meets fantasy (Trump told us this wasn’t a tax and he never lies, so this isn’t a tax - or if it is a tax, we don’t pay it).

31/32
@DublinBlues
I know, right?!!! Can you imagine Ronald Reagan bragging about higher income taxes producing “record revenue” as a huge win? We’re living in Bizarro World.

32/32
@Laff5577
Is this why everything I buy is more expensive now?? But my rebate check and DOGE check are gonna take the sting of inflation away. Right? Right????
