Nah. Had a few eye opening experiences growing up in the church. Remember, those "holy" people in church are the same nikkas in the streets Monday thru saturday

I used to think like this until I started reading the Bible.

Maybe God will forgive them but when your dad is the pastor and he smokes crack, cheats on your mom and lies to the church about his family life every sunday you kinda lose trust. Plus all the other hypocrites you see growing up there too :yeshrug:

A young man at my church is on his way to college this week and just found out that he had a $20k bill. So he wouldn’t have to take out any loans, our church raised the 20k for him this past Sunday. :yeshrug:

Which may be another factor in why black millennials are doing worse than their parents generation since most black millenials are churchless.

Many are missing out on crucial networking opportunities that could propel their careers in their 20s and 30s.

I believe that in order to get ahead, you have to be strategic in everything.

I was lucky in that the parish that I grew up in was and is still considered among some people to be king dingaling in my city.

The head priest is a member of the Boule and the church is wall to wall Links, JnJ, Alpha’s, Deltas, Assembly, Druids, and Snakes members.

I got my first internship which inevitably became my first full-time job at Pricewaterhouse Coopers because a black Partner was a member. I met my current girlfriend here because her family are members. I was invited to join a black social club just for being a member. A mentor of mine who is over admissions at Booth Business School at UofC essentially told me when I’m ready to apply let him know and I’m basically in. I was just inducted into this Urban League top rising black leaders fellowship which also pipelines into Booth because a member of my church oversees the program. I have gotten put on so much because the members look out for each other.

My family always taught me that religion has its place.

If you don’t attend church because you’re not the most religious, that’s fair. Most people aren’t, at least in my faith. But there are other benefits if you’re strategic and ambitious.:wow:

nikkas could literally eat if they fall into the right church. Most of the women are single and looking and the networking opportunities are crazy.

You don’t think you can teach them basic values as a parent?
I understand why my parents made me and my siblings go to church as children: it's a good way for us to socialize with other black families in a healthy environment.

Even though I'm not really religious and I'm not keen on church, when I have children, I'm definitely going to make sure they attend with me and my future wife.

It won't be no 5 hour marathon church service though. 2 hours tops.:birdman:

The wife and I have kinda fallen off with going as much in the last year.

I believe in a supreme being, but I find the process of church itself to be a little boring especially if you dont have a good teacher in the pulpit. Most people are not knowledgeable enough to be trying to lead a flock.

Too many of these ministers in the Black church do a lot of hooping and hollering with little teaching involved. Many live a life very contrary to what they talk about as well and that also turns a lot of people off.

I dont consider myself to be the most religious person, but I pray and I know there is a God or some complex being looking out for me. I've been in some hectic situations in life and I've watched them turn around in the eleventh hour.

I need to make sure my sons have that foundation regardless of my views of many aspects of religion.

Nope. I stopped going when I was allowed to make the choice for myself in my teens. Have only been sporadically to accompany my paternal grandmother (who passed last year) or for funerals since then. It didn't help that I grew up going to a popular black church in LA where I witnessed a lot of hypocrisy and treachery first hand from a young age.

I rarely speak on the subject but I feel organized religion, especially Christianity has been somewhat detrimental to black advancement in America. I feel if you believe in God and are interested in the bible, there are far better ways to be spiritually enriched than having an old man who drives a Tesla tell you all about how the meek shall inherit the earth ~one day~...but not now though, so just pray real hard and tithe and maybe when you die your circumstances will improve.

Not yet but I would like to. For now I have been maintaining a relationship with God, sharing verses with others, praying, watching sermons on YouTube.

Church is good but let's be honest most treat it like it's one of the bases in a game of baseball and their safe for that week or day. We should all be reading the word as well.

This sounds like a lot of Churches to me.

Couldn't find the answers I was looking for and ended-up finding them on my own.

Besides, I'm an Introvert. Me and large groups don't get along.

Get more out of theology just talking one-on-one with various different religious people and researching theological viewpoints/history.

Atheism stunted my growth for a minute.

Glad I gave that up.​

Your pops wasn't really a Christian
How does that stop him from being christian? How many christians do shyt they shouldn't? So if people have problems in life that takes their Christianity away from them? He eventually got his shyt together years later but none of that changed or took his faith.
