Does the South's reign in rap have more to do with the culture of the USA than the culture of NY?

Am I wrong in thinking the majority of black people in the US live in the South still?

Let's not forget one of the reasons for west coast and New York dominance is those areas have a loudspeaker to the rest of the country and world. Bigger media corporations. More money. Pre-existing networks for the music industry

The Internet killed the need of the major label, IMO. The souths rise came at the right moment, when people were getting tired of the super gangsta raps and the expansion of high speed internet.

Southern rap has more mass appeal

NY rap appeals to nyers. And a few philly and jersey nikkas

South got better beats and hooks to appeal to fickle minded females that don't give a damn about Hip Hop. The simps catered to them, and now the rap game filled with metrosexual rappers.

Tbh I don't disagree:ld:
Which is why I said it has more mass appeal

most real hip hop heads do gravitate to 90s/early 00 east coast rap

Not in Hiphop. NYC is not the trendsetters anymore. I would say Lil Wayne, Young Thug and Future have had more influence in urban fashion in the past 10-15 years.

Anyone can go online and see what's hot. No one wants on NYC to see.

Lol this is so false. Bape getting life again is because of A $AP rocking so heavy, the most influential streetwear/skateboard brands are based out of NYC and they have gain alot of popularity in the urban community over the last 10 years. Foamposites becoming trendy nationwide after being local for the first 10 years can be attributed to NY influence. Future rocks Tackma a NYC brand along with a bunch of NBA players. New Yorkers were rocking Monclers since 2005 and you got chicago drill rappers right now just getting up on them.

Yes, but NY also fell the fukk off. Lil Wayne is the only superstar the south has been able to produce and style wise he's a NY rapper, the south is cool for jingles but overall their whole culture is inferior & not conducive to producing classic hiphop and everyone knows it.

The South has produced several superstars (OutKast, Ludacris, Juvenile, T.I., Master P). The South had more than just some jingles. Scarface was a huge influence on Biggie, Jay, Beans, Juelz and a lot of other East Coast MC's. Not just MC's from NY, but he also influenced Pac. That's just one Southern artist. The South's impact on Hip Hop can't be downplayed especially it's impact on '90's Hip Hop.

:francis: I'm said SUPERstars. People who had the culture & pop culture as whole by the balls, Snoop, 50, Pac, Hov, Kanye, Wayne, Drake etc None of those dudes belong in that category.

I'd argue that T.I. and Kast belong in that category.

New York isn't insulated. Aren't there over 200 languages spoken there? It's a very dense city where most are built out its built up. It's a world city because it influences(is influenced in return) by everywhere also. Alot of music is brought there just like its exported, not saying just rap tho
