Becuz it sounds better. And i actually prefer Illmatic. But Doggystyle was Dre at his peak. The production on that album is crazy. One of the best produced albums ever

I disagree better mixing not better produced, for what it’s worth Memory Lane is still the best rap instrumental I’ve heard till this day,

I think the Chronic is better than Doggystyle - but Snoop on his own slides better than almost any of his peers.

So, no.

It is a fantastic album though. 5*

There's no way to know how long it took to go plat, RIAA only starts the audit when the label pays for it.

They don't track it in real time. They never did.

Fred.

:gucci:

The album went officially platinum in 2001 what the hell are you talking about?

:stopitslime:

You seriously think Nas, Search and the record label forgot to claim Illmatic as platinum right after it hit platinum?

“Hit hit platinum in 99 but we forgot to claim that”

:russ: Yea ok.

Does anyone account that Illmatic was heavily bootlegged in NYC? Which also was the main place for the sales to come from for that album when talking about sales?

It's a reason it took so long to go plat or why stores couldn't "give that shyt away." nikkas that should have been supporting all year 1 had it already and at large. You know the lyrics
Cap, pac is on film during the his time filming juice, getting at a bootleger on the east whom was seeking digital underground and a gang of other shyt. All commercial albums get bootlegged, before and after Illmatic. It's just corny excuses for illmatic's lack of draw during its initial run in retail. Bias media for it platinum after 7 years and many years after that, it finally hit double during the streaming era.

It's a new way to shyt on Nas. For years, the narrative was "Illmatic is the only great album Nas ever made." Now, it's "Illmatic was never that good anyway." I see it and I'm not into it at all. :hhh:
Illmatic never was that good and didn't mean anything in 94',outside east coast bias media. There's a handful of albums that meant waaaaay more than illmatic in 94',but the media conned people into believing otherwise.

Stop fronting, ya'll make excuses for illmatic all day.

shyt flopped, "oh it's bootleggers" "oh we haven't a clue when it went platinum". fukk outta here.
When gauging illmatic's performance, using the same metrics as other commercially released albums of the era, it's a flop. Enough of the excuses

Ehh it’s a toss up I’d say Doggystyle but that album was more of a group effort wit Dre n Daz on the boards, The Doc helping and the whole Row in general making sure they came correct following up The Chronic. compared to Illmatic. Imo Nas had the better rap performance on Illmatic and Memory Lane is damn near the greatest hip hop song ever to me but Doggystyle goes like beyond rap shyt’s monumental.

It's not a toss up. Ilmatic can't even fukk with Dogg Food, let alone Doggystyle. Crazy what 28 years of brainwashing can do :snoop:
