shyt was wack but it's not the same as Starships anyway. that shyt with Justin Bieber is basically Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthin Ta fukk Wit but with Bieber singing on it, it's practically a mash up. Starships is complete switch to pop, so much that people wouldn't even know it was Nicki Minaj if they weren't told or if they didn't see the video. there is NOTHING Hip Hop about it at all, and that's fine as long as you don't turn around & claim that it is.

you basically lose some integrity. According to you, a country artist can make a rap album. An alternative rock band can make an opera record. Nicki is made starships for the sole purpose of getting money. Thats where the sell out part comes into play because starships and songs like starships is what gets her doing cameo's with Madona and exands her fan base to 13 year old white chicks. You end up alienating one fan base to cater to another and in the end you will eventually lose both.
