'superiority and preserving the nation ' is better put....which seems to be the issue with haiti (im assuming im not well versed in island politics)
but it seemed one dominican in the thread was to far away from calling outright ethnic cleansing
the reason some dominicans get so passionate about it(some of my cousins included) is because there are dominicans, who seem to have ulterior motives, calling for the unification of the island as one country. this shyt is pissing people off like u wouldnt believe. i am totally against that too but im not mad enough at haitians as a group to be down with a full scale war with them of any kind. i would honestly love to see both countries prosper and i really mean that. i honestly wish DR was big and strong and rich enough to be able to take in as many refugees that needed help as we could. we just arent. the people that have to make these tough decisions have to take emotion out of it.
im against deporting haitians that were born in DR unless they were just born there within the last 10 years. anybody that is in the country illegally is going to have to be deported, just the reality. DR cant handle it.
the truth is yes, our biggest hurdle is corrupt politicians and the euro-dominican elite like the Vicini family that is trying to exploit these haitian migrant workers. i wish my people would focus more of their anger towards them rather than haitians who are only trying to survive.
but at the same time, the impact that such a mass and illegal exodus of haitians into DR cant be ignored. you have to go to DR to see what i mean. one time we were stopped at a red light in santiago and a haitian boy came up to us and asked for some change, so my dad gave it to him even tho my uncle told him not to. my dad has a big heart so he could not say no, but then he understood why he was told not to. as soon as he handed the change to the boy, i kid you not, the car was SURROUNDED with haitian women and children begging us for change. some even put their hand into the car and seemed to be almost in tears. some of the women carrying babies! shyt was sad as fukk. i would fukking LOVE for us to be an exemplary country and help all of these people. haitians that have money and go to DR to study are actually among the brightest graduates of dominican universities. these are very smart people that just need a break.
but DR cant afford to give it to them. there is just no way. like i always tell people, there are still NUMEROUS towns where people dont even have indoor plumbing or a decent road infrastructure.
its a shytty situation and it makes us look terrible to the world, but its just one of those things where the right decision will make u enemies.
now as for the whole "oh dominicans are c00ns" argument that the coli loves..
i want to ask you a question as someone who is actually having a civil discussion about this with me.
lets say dominicans were the most pro-black country in the world outside of africa. lets say we changed our flag colors to red black and green and took down or columbus statues and just completely became THE afro-latin country ya want us to be..
do u honestly think that changes anything within the DR-Haiti dynamic? assuming the history was the same and everything else was exactly the same, the only difference being DR is more pro-africa than anybody else.
