It was a joke!
(1/2)

"Yank" from Miami here, obviously I grew up around both groups, from FOBs all the way to 2nd/3rd generations, forgive me if I'm overstepping :hubie:

I got nothing but love for Zoes and as far as I can remember, I've never had any :mjpls: experiences with Dominicans, Black or mestizo

But I have heard Haitian-American friends tell me about Dominicans flipping out or acting all passive aggressive when they find out they're talking to a Haitian more times than I can count but it's clearly bigger than that
(2/2)

But identity? Is it a racial thing? An assimilation thing? I saw Black Dominicans protesting too :hubie:

In my experience Haitians are more willing to learn other languages compared to other people :mjpls: and I've met Zoes who speak Spanish just like a Dominican would

I hope there isn't gonna be a parsley massacre again :francis:

Why are the Dominican elite now doing something about it? This stuff has been going on for a decade at least :jbhmm:

it’s not the Dominican elite and please for the love of god stop using that word “elite” :pachaha:.

If I showed you the org heads this wasn’t peasants in the street as y’all attempted to frame it. The mobilization was poor, rich, middle class. That’s what y’all aren’t understanding. This mobilized everyone. All against the Haitianization of the country as it has been put

they're 1/3rd of the entire island. I get wanting more secure borders, but cutting off diplomatic relations would be foolish. Not many places on Earth have the set up we have of 2 countries on the same island.

Besides, the Haitian side of the island is damn near uninhabitable just off where it is and what happens to it naturally. Even if DR wanted to wipe Haiti out, nobody's tryna develop on a fault that's subject to so many natural disasters.
Haiti is habitable even with the fault, but because we were cursed with useless pieces of dog shyt leaders and blood sucking foreigner’s.

The money for stable infrastructure is nonexistent. Japan is in the ring of fire and their doing just dandy.

What does “reconquista” mean In the context of a nationalist march?
Some dangerous notes at play here.

: I see the tweet you’re referring to. In that sense it’s the feeling that the country has already been lost with the amount of Haitians living there and they are saying we need to reconquer our land. :francis:

I mean you're the one who said something about the previous administration organizing/sponsoring the event with the rich. :yeshrug:

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
I was “talking” to a dark skin Dominican and I mentioned that my ex was Haitian American. This man had an entire hissy fit needless to say I stopped talking to him ..with no regrets. I really don’t care what happens with the Dominican Republic. They hate Haitians. I do however wish nothing but the best for Haiti. Period.

There’s a history tho. Dominicans were treated better by their oppressors than Haitian slaves. Spain gave them culture which and when they left there wasn’t as much ill will.

Haitian slaves were worked to death and their land stripped. They fought for their independence. They they tried to get aggressive with Dominicans at some point.

But having to pay reparations to France killed their chances of any economic development while the DR was able to somewhat thrive.

Then their is the European/western/CAC brainwashing and whitewashing. Dominicans are probably ignorant to the full history of Haiti.

It's actually worse than that.

They are talking about reclaiming a part of the island that now belongs to Haiti but was part of DR 83 years ago.

The group called AOD or Dominican Ancient Order has been talking about regaining that part of the island for some time now. They are a far right ultra nationalist group, sort of like the Proud Boys in the US.

The main reason why this protest even happened is because the UN and some NGO's have been "secretly" building refugee camps for haitians in DR territory. So the main premise behind this protest, is that the international community and the UN should focus on stabilizing Haiti and help haitians IN HAITI, not promoting more illegal migration to the DR and leaving them to DR to deal with. Which is in my opinion very reasonable, but unfortunately alot of bad apples got mixed in with the rest in this protest, which is why you see the presence of so many nationalist and far right groups.

Dozens of paid shills (the going rate is 8 dollars and some fried chicken) show up to a march and that's a boiling point. :russell: hotep bable.

This is what a boiling point looks like 2 years ago same city of approximately 2 million people

Day and Night for 2+weeks straight during the pandemic they had restrictions and curfew you out past 7 o clock you go to jail they had to let people rock cause they (past goverment) tried to steal a congretional election. People got fed up and got the previous regime out the paint.
new president locking up all corrupt politicians even in his own party.

And this march yesterday is just more of the old school politicians trying to rile things up before they get locked up. people didn't show up they are more worried about inflation and gas prices than illegal immigrants.

breh no disrespect but this is just nonsense. Lol Dominicans were literally on the island first. I’m sure they had a front row seat to Haitian history as they watched them arrive :skip: .

you speak of spaniards as if they aren‘t a part of present day Dominicans. That’s a fundamental difference as french and French descendants aren’t a part of Haitian identity today.

tried to get aggressive? They colonized the country for 22 years, suppressed Spanish language and culture, expelled catholic cardinals, etc.

you are correct in one thing is Dominican leaders which became trinitarios didn’t agree and wouldn’t help pay for Haiti’s debt (remember the Spanish colony was under occupation when that deal was made)

there is no brainwashing, there’s a failure to respect history because it‘s not favorable to your ego

I know exactly what you‘re talking about :ohhh:. I forgot the name of the area.

yeh I’m aware of AOD. Like I said previously here is that they have never really been embraced. Now they are which shows me a shift in attitudes.
