If you know how to navigate and know the times, you should be good.

When you get caught bad though :wow:

Like I said before you can either make it to San Diego or barely get to LAX from the 10 and 405 junction in 2 hours depending on when you leave.

Before the pandemic it took me 1 hour to get to and from work everyday for 2 years. I lived 10 miles away from the office which was located in Culver City.

Everyday it was practically:
"Should I take La Brea, the 405, La Cienega or Jefferson?"

"Oh look somebody blocking an intersection on Slauson."
"Time to listen to people blow their horns as we watch this traffic light change color 3 times before we can drive through it." :unimpressed:

Bay Area/Chicago

LA was ranked worst traffic every year from 1982-2020.

Work from home, stricter California covid rules, etc. ny has now surpassed LA.

I still think bay area is worse than any where in the country. These studies are flawed. They dont compare land size to travel. Example SF is bad, but its small, land size. But the bay area is much larger than SF/Oakland. Thats also where the bulk of residents live, outside of SF. If you tried to drive from where most people live from San Jose (South) to Fairfield (North) at 5 pm on any week day, you will see the worst traffic in the country :manny:
I moved from the Bay to Chicago and the traffic here is so much better than at home. It actually moves and not constant stop and go. I would regularly go from the Richmond area to the South of SF and it would be disgusting. I am WFH now so i am good regardless.

L.a. don't have no subway???:dahell:
Car culture and shytty government.

They will not even build a high speed train from LA to San Francisco. Because they only thing between those two cities are desert and Federal prisons

Anyone use FasTrak?

Im basically going to be commuting form San Diego to Moorpark for school. Just wanted to see if it was worth it for the money. Do you just put money in the account monthly, or is it an annual pay type of thing?

I actually go back and forth between both cities often: (wife is from San Diego). I think she puts money in monthly and only when she's going to use it.

I'd say it's nice because that 73 toll road can bypass a lot of traffic on the 5 and 405 when you pass through Orange County (and you get a great view). However, depending on what time you leave that may not be an issue.

Fastrak is really good for the 91 Freeway once you get off the 15, but you probably won't be taking that direction anyways (edit: it actually may be your fastest drive). Bottleneck is always going to be the 405 once you get near LAX and I don't think Fastrak covers that. It'll really depend on how much time you save taking by the 73 (which is wide open like 99% of the time).

Moorpark? Are you crazy

I keep the fast trak on deck. When I used commute it wouldn’t cost much. Like an extra 30 a month.

You know how the Belt Parkway is during rush hour?

The 805/91/5 are just as bad. Some spots on the 5 (City Of Commerce, etc) have gigantic potholes and basically asphalt roads.
Belt is trash but nothing is worse than anywhere near flatbush/Atlantic. Middle of BK with no highways in sight you stuck at them intersections for an hour

Staying with my fiance and her family in San Diego for the month. Drove back to Culver City to visit my brother yesterday.

Nearly 2 hours flat to go from SD to LA in the morning.
5 hours to drive from LA to SD and I left right before the real rush hour.

LA traffic is still the worst but Irvine and San Diego traffic have got pretty ridiculous too (pretty sure I hit Irvine right around rush hour).
If I waited to leave at around 3pm in LA that would've probably been a 6 hour commute easy. Google maps kept saying "4 hours away" for about an hour.

Ended up completely missing the Fastrak which added basically another hour :snoop:
