It doesn't matter. America is still a racist white supremacist country and it still enslaved black people for 400+ years. It changes nothing. This is what America is and always will be.

I live in the south and have most of my life and see this shyt all over. I'll be honest, I don't care one way or another but if I was forced to make a choice I would vote for it to come down. It won't change how people feel in this country. Its a symbolic victory if anything.

I lived in Nashville and right on the busiest highways is a huge ugly statue of Nathan Bedford Forest, the founder of the KKK. I always saw that statue when I was in Nashville, but I never knew what the fukk it was until a few days ago :ohhh: .That trips me out more than the confederate flag.. I mean this statue is huge and supposedly it was erected by James Earl Ray's Lawyer in the 60s who was staunch segregationist and racist.

what i wonder is, was the south flying it right after we beat them, and up til this day?

or was there like a period where it was like "nah you cant fly that"

From what I understand,it seems like a lot of what we see now about flying the flag became more popular during the civil rights as a form against rebellion during the civil rights movement.

The thing is that as mentioned previously, it wasn't the official flag of the confederacy and was a battle flag, but just like the Swastika stop being largely associated with Buddhism and now associated more with Nazism, this flag is now been warped as "rebellion" among mostly racists southern whites against their perceived oppressors of liberal northerners.

I couldn't imagine living around this shyt and seeing it every day without snapping...
The thing is, I hate to say it, you get used to it. No one I associated with or knew was rocking the flag or defending it. A lot of people also view it negatively. However, it wasn't unusual to see the typical beat up dirty pickup truck drive by with this big ole flag attached to the top or a big sticker on the back window. Especially when you drive into the rural areas you see these flags everywhere.

It doesnt change anything... its reflective of a change already happening.

5, 10, 20 years ago the thought of taking the flags down was unthinkable.

Not to mention, various white nationalists have been speaking in tongues trying to come up with a rationale to justify keepign it up. The most popular one being, "taking it down doesnt change anything... so why dont we just keep it up. if we take it down, that gives it more power" :leostare: They are trying to play games because they know they have no straightforward rationale to keep it up. So its def important. The tragedy of the shooting cant be overlooked or downplayed, but the flag coming down because of it demonstrates the kind of political leverage we really have in this country (and seem to refuse to band together to use)

Its an important shift in consciousness. America is publicly admitting that the exact same racism from 200+ years ago is alive in 2015, even though the majority of americans want to deny this . Thats a big deal in "post-racial" America...

The symbolism is important. With that said is just a move for passification the black community and a very transparent one at that. Typical government move, instead of fixing a problem they try and make superficial visible changes. Its a good step but theyre patting themselves on the back like they actually made a difference already. They really think blacks are so dumb that they cant see through this.....

Dawg, I lived in Pittsburgh...yes....Pittsburgh...yes...western PA...and I saw confederate flags damn near everyday. I just started doing stuff like spraypainting black spraypaint over a truck that had a confederate flag plate and spraypainting the words "I'm a f@ggot" on their truck...as well as doing stuff like throwing rocks and trucks that had that shyt hanging off their back bed.

Eventually I had to move...seeing that shyt so frequently pissed me off to the point I just couldn't even enjoy myself or think straight man...

Alot of y'all bamas are just conditioned to accept that shyt and that's sad as fukk. I almost fought one of them fukking racist crackers over that shyt. And straight up I would hang one of them from a tree with that same flag they worship.
