I get it, but damn near every mock had Hali over Vassell. They are similar builds (although I get that DV had the better projection as a general athlete). I remember the chatter being DV was drafted for defense...haven't seen it.
But if we draft Tyrese do we still end up with Victor

Dallas by way of Houston by way of San Antonio

I always hate this take because we're assuming the Spurs purposely took a lesser player with a tank in mind. Is that why they drafted Samanic? Is that why they reached for Primo? A multi year lackluster draft run to get Victor?

If you want to speculate, you have to read that text and wonder: what does it mean to pursue a player that fits their timeline?

What IS their timeline?

Kevin Durant is 38 years old. Hard to think his timeline fits with the Spurs young core.

I do think the Spurs intend to be a playoff team this coming season. Durant would help them get there. Beyond that, I’m not sure he’s part of the plan 2 years from now.

Maybe they actually DO make the trade for Giannis. And instead of finding a floor spacer big next to Wemby…Wemby himself is the floor spacer for Giannis. Kind of how Brook Lopez did for Giannis in Milwaukee. I’m just getting all the dumb theories out now.

:russ:

But for real, it would have to be a player that’s a big upgrade over Harrison Barnes. Because PF is the biggest hole in the starting rotation outside of the PG development.

Is a backup big something the Spurs want to trade for?

I don’t know. The rumor was that Durant isn’t on the Spurs because Sochan was off the table. That means either the Spurs are intent on keeping Sochan for the long term, or they will only give him up for a considerably better player than 37 year old Durant.

So if Sochan stays and Dylan Harper is the pick at #2, you gotta figure Vassell or Keldon’s days are numbered.

The thing is though, do you really trade Keldon or Vassell for a backup big? I think they ought to be able to get more than that.
