Russia not going to claim their men because it makes them look weak. Bloomberg reporting that over 100 got killed all together without a casualty on the SDF/US side.Man, this can't be good for international relations.
Is the assumption that Russian military assets aren't providing logistical support to these contractors? Seems Putin is trying to distance the military from admitting official casualties. From what this seems like is these are Russian private military contractors who are embedding themselves with pro Assad Sunni Arab tribes

The Russians also learned they need to tread carefully, as these kinds of mistakes will not be reciprocated by a more disciplined and battle-tested special operations force. This story will be downplayed significantly, but it's a clear indication of quality between who is on the ground for both sides.I agree on Putin trying to distance the military. I think the Russians fukked up. They communicated with the Americans on the hot line, the Americans asked are any of your people there, the Russian probably said no
Then boom. The PMCs who’ve been in areas that were taken by the Syrian and Russian militaries from ISIS are with the pro govt militias approaching SDF positions and the Russian MOD knows it made a mistake.
With that said, the US has to tread carefully in Syria. We aren’t there with a statutory mandate from Congress or the UN. Once ISIS is really gone, Eastern Syria is just desert. With half of Syria’s oil and water resources. But those areas aren’t on an island.
Thats a down payment on fukking with the election![]()
