On 2001 theres more "hits" that will be remembered by more people. Im talking about "Next Episode" or "Still DRE".
Naah - 2001 is a classic - that wack line that I never fully appreciated and all.
I was still on the West Coast and this album was appreciated by everyone that liked hip hop and then even beyond that. Street, suburb, it didn't matter. If the streets in Philly wasn't rocking with 2001 - then that's the streets in Philly's loss.
Yup the album didn't help launch anyone into stardom or help out any careers, it's not what it's made out to be....
It didn't help launch Eminem into super stardom.
It didn't help take Xzibit from Ras Kass Jr status to a house hold name.
It didn't breath new life into Snoop's career and make him 'cool' in the mainstream again.
It didn't launch Scott Storch into stardom and highly sought after for production by everyone from Timbaland to 50 Cent.
It didn't do any of this because well, Dre and Hitman had a falling out so he didn't blow up. Trumps it all.
On a side note the cross over line was a basketball reference and a movie reference, it's a double entendre, ironically enough while you guys are comparing Reasonable Doubt and 2001. That is why the line before it is "Oh yeah I scream on stars" you should probably...you know....listen to music instead of just skim through it?![]()
you just proved my point. you were on the west coast.
its not just philly homie. lol.
youre just repeating the same stuff that already got shot done.
and what movie was he referencing exactly with that kareem line? LOL.
The point is any area that wasn't rocking with 2001 was missing out.
Maybe it's cause im older but listening through 2001 since i saw this thread & this is an extremely generic gangsta rap album, there's so many cliches it's almost borderline paradoy. This is why Detox is never coming out. 50 year olds can't do gangsta rap & Dre has shown he isn't capable of doing much outside of it.

I'll readily admit that at the time that both albums dropped, 2001 had a bigger impact in terms of how it was viewed by the public and, of course, sales. RD didn't have a huge impact on hip hop - in the way that Illmatic did - but it was influential. Whenever I listen to the Clipse - for example - I see RD's influence.
It was Written was similar - and OBFCL is considered the first Mafioso album from NY - but both albums can easily be distinguished from the subject matter of RD. when did I say 2001 helped no one? And how does thinking its not a production masterpiece equate to hating on the beats? Did you not read the very post of mine you quoted where I referred to 2001 as a classic numerous times?
You ducked my question if whether the second half of 2001 is as good as the first half, and we both know why you ducked it.
Originally yes, but it gave it 5 mic 2 years later when they realized that the album wasn't an album strictly promoting violence and misogyny.
You originally said 2001 had a minor impact. So now if it had a bigger impact then RD when it dropped, what impact did RD have when it dropped? None.
I said you hated on the beats because you said it was equal to rd in beats. RD is better lyrically but now you're gonna say that 2001 is classic but RD has equal beats? You have flip flopped a lot. What makes 2001 classic to you? Since you keep saying you consider it one but then keep down-playing it.
The first half of 2001 is better, and?
And people saying 2001 was only for the west coast. You think RD was bigger in the west coast, then 2001 was on the east? A lot of posters can't look past their region. This site is and always has been east coast biased.

LMFAO! Fuk I say Blacc Album his best work. I was drivin home listening to "LIG" by Nas n thought "if he wasnt monotone wit a bland personality I like his style since im into double entendre n metaphors n write in that style"
ya b*stards! How old is this thread?
