2001 debuted at #2 on the Billboard charts back in '99 and The Chronic peaked at #3. Crazy how Dre's solo albums never debuted at #1.

Yeah I was thinking about this, funny ain't it? Scarface has a number 1 album and he was never a household name like Dre.

It is but Beyonce did 800k, and this was supposed to be Detox the most anticipated album of all time. :yeshrug:

Dre is 50 now. 15-year old kids weren't born when 2001 dropped in late '99. The Chronic was 23 years ago. Beyoncé has been in the public eye for years now. I don't think there's any way Dre has a bigger fan base in this day and age. But.. if the word of mouth is good he could keep doing #'s for a while. Maybe it'll have some legs.

First nobody knew the album was coming out until about a week or so ago. Next there was no single to jump start the hype. Lastly it wasn't "Detox" and many people think it's a "Soundtrack" to the movie. Those are solid numbers. Sad it didn't hit #1 as someone posted, Dre never went #1 on the Billboard 200. He's been the executive producer of double digit #1 albums. But none of his solo's went #1. These numbers are solid.

numbers are impressive. might even go up soon as this sees general release and gets more promo and word of mouth.
