Assessing mandatory stay-at-home and business closure effects on the spread of COVID-19

Results: Implementing any NPIs was associated with significant reductions in case growth in 9 out of 10 study countries, including South Korea and Sweden that implemented only lrNPIs (Spain had a nonsignificant effect). After subtracting the epidemic and lrNPI effects, we find no clear, significant beneficial effect of mrNPIs on case growth in any country. In France, for example, the effect of mrNPIs was +7% (95% CI: -5%-19%) when compared with Sweden and + 13% (-12%-38%) when compared with South Korea (positive means pro-contagion). The 95% confidence intervals excluded 30% declines in all 16 comparisons and 15% declines in 11/16 comparisons.

Conclusions: While small benefits cannot be excluded, we do not find significant benefits on case growth of more restrictive NPIs. Similar reductions in case growth may be achievable with less-restrictive interventions.

The 95% quoted for Pfizer is defined as:

Which means that (per phase III trail at that time) they were referring to symptomatic COVID-19. Meaning that that 95% most likely includes asymptomatic carriers.

Looking at the threshold for population herd immunity, it was original estimated to be around 70% but IIRC this was suggested to be around 80-85% required for some of the more infectious variants.

So in one word is herd immunity likely as a result of the vaccine alone? No.

But as we are told ad-infinitum it is not just about the vaccine(s), so factors like social distancing measures, travel restrictions, previous infection, hard-washing also play a role,

Masks help to filter those droplets from spreading even farther. Same reason we cover our nose & mouth when we sneeze.

Air can still pass through, you wont suffocate but it will catch the moisture droplets.

Flu cases are down because it doesnt spread as easily as COVID-19 and thanks to masks and other COVID precautions/preventive measures

Breh, the effectiveness of the smallpox vaccine is about 95%, the EXACT SAME as the effectiveness of the first two Covid vaccines to be approved. 95% is a fantastic rate and can definitely provide herd immunity in all but the most contagious diseases.

Does it look like herd immunity was perfected by people getting measles or by people getting the vaccine?

Also , death rate is measured per 1000 people. It typically increases a little each year. How much did it increase in 2020? It's on par with recent years. You aren't posting the death rate number because you don't know what it is. You're just repeating # of deaths.
