Drake's team had hoped the judge would look at NLU and the lawsuit in isolation and not consider the full context of their feud and the history of hip-hop battles in general. They were wrong. The judge did her homework.

The court transcripts from June or July mentioned this.

The judge asked how can Drake claim defamation in the middle of a rap battle when he was saying equally defamatory things about Kendrick.

"Back to work buddy"

Imagine the world he loses in with no lawsuit, no flop tour, no weird cryptic videos, no etch a sketch abs on IG, no Party bullshyt, no weird pods with white girls, no crying over Conductor beats, nothing. Then last week of April '25 this hit

First few lines even fit, and it's a CLB leak so he didn't have to open his mouth or do anything, the answers are in the vault. Beat was made for him to talk his shyt and it's his best pen, Tony's pen. Wouldn't have got him out from under the L but it would've kicked off the Hov post Ether redemption part of the career nice. Any one of us could've recovered this nikka better than literally everything he did.

UMG allegedly had their finger on the scale, IN EXCESS, of regular marketing that big artists get. Thats the nuance here. I know it’s hard to grasp but Kendrick and Drake were always going to be premier draws. The label just had to let it play out. Don’t gas either side. Don’t amp shyt up, etc. UMG was clearly spending money on the record in ways far more aggressive than they would have for a natural song.

UMG pushed that shyt far in excess of what it normally would have done IN THE MIDDLE OF DRAKE’S CONTRACT RENEGOTIATION WITH DRAKE. If you’re OK with this, then say so…but Drake is not gonna just tolerate that from his own label snaking him out after already clearing his deal.

Now, I don’t know what you would do…but Drake’s options are basically to sit there and take less money or blow the whole thing over.

Basically, this is a Kanye level move.

The genius play is for Drake to invite Kendrick to join the litigation and give Kendrick a portion of the earnings if he wins the cases or settles. That way, they can reframe the battle as less important than artist rights, etc. :sas2:

Plus, Drake can say, “if they do it to me, they will definitely do it to you” :mjpls:

Facts Drake would have had a point If Kendrick never did Like That and just released NLU. And Drake never responded
