Drake is 38. Kendrick will be 38 in 6 months. Is this bad for rap?

everybody talking about rap being a young man's game forget that once rock, jazz, blues were young mens game. They stopped being that because young people stopped being interested in it.

You kinda need young new stars to cycle in to be their gens artists that they identify with, just how it works. Not enough time passed for me to think hip hop is in any real trouble (especially not after how high profile this beef got). There was a lot of talk last year about girl pop flaming out cause all the big hits are still the same old divas till this past year had girl george chappelle roan and sabrina carpenter become big. Anything can happen and us old fukks won't know till it hits.

Hip Hop is attacted to Urban youth culture and that won't be changing, at least in the next generation or two... Hip Hop is very accessible as an artform (for better or for worse), b/c you just need to freestyle to get started...not like you need an orchestra or even an instrument to make songs. That will help it always be something the youth/Urban youth will move towards.

playing an instrument and songs around that, will ensure you stay around longer…IF you’re popular enough

NIp was RIGHT there bro.
Lets stop with the revisionist history. Nip was loved for his business acumen more so than his music to the average person. He was growing and finally getting recognition for his music on a national level right before he died, but he was not "right there". Kendrick was the biggest hip hop artist in 2017-18.

And this is no disrespect to Nip, I've been rocking with bro since Crenshaw, but lets not rewrite history.

Not really. X/Juice/Pop had undeniable pop sensibilities. Nip was more in the Ross/Meek lane which gets you to a certain level. I def think Nip was gonna keep building and be next up from the west, but he wasn't getting to Kendrick's level (arenas, stadiums, Super Bowl, #1 hit singles etc). That's not a diss either. I fukk with Nip. Having him around right now would have been very interesting. Especially during this battle.

I dont mean being kendrick big musically, but Hov business and industry wise. Kendrick would have still maintained the creative edge (that verse on Victory Lap alone :whew:) but Nipsey was about to be on a T.I. level run.
