Drake is 38. Kendrick will be 38 in 6 months. Is this bad for rap?

Not true. "Dead rappers get better promotion" is a myth, and the reality is it's actually very unlikely that an artist maintains popularity after their death. X and Juice's huge streaming numbers are far from a common occurrence. X was breaking streaming records before he died
There’s a difference in huge streaming numbers and practically becoming martyrs within their fanbases.

mothafukkas worrying about rappers still rapping past their 40s, but not concerned about the old fool who still making music trying to appeal to the younger crowd.
Most def. I’m all for veteran rappers still having output especially if it’s quality, but if you’re nearly 40 and still trying to make 22 year old music, :pacspit::camby:

Not very good examples of modern popular music thur
Rock had modern iterations be mainstream or at least relevant with young people till early 2010's but I'll give you the others. Guess my point is more so being a "young man's game" isn't as baked in as you think. Definitely to scenes as they're relevant, but it can suddenly be for dads and granddads just as quick.

Hip Hop is attacted to Urban youth culture and that won't be changing, at least in the next generation or two... Hip Hop is very accessible as an artform (for better or for worse), b/c you just need to freestyle to get started...not like you need an orchestra or even an instrument to make songs. That will help it always be something the youth/Urban youth will move towards.

True. Which is why I said I don't think we know enough to truly say it's over. Just had a superbowl halftime show for the biggest artist of the year who is a rapper, doesn't really matter if he was at it since overly dedicated came out and got huge 12 years ago with GKMC. And you see most artists who gain any attention mostly be rappers online, be they fully mainstream or having their own cult followings, so someone's bound to break out eventually.

What does it say that the two biggest artists are essentially less than 2 years away from turning 40 and the biggest artists in Rap music?

Is this unusual or is it normally around this age that artists peak or reach their biggest draws?

It just feels to me that artists tended to shine a little earlier. BUT…rappers are releasing albums now into their 40s and seeing success.

Is this a refusal of the OGs from stepping aside or is the game different for everyone regardless and everyone should just get in where they fit in?
What happens when they turn 40? Rap is weird. Most other genres of music don’t really care what age an artist is they just care about the music. Nobody tries to bush Kiss or The Rolling Stones cause they’re past 40.

Ideally age shouldn't matter. If you're popping, you're popping.

I agree with this.

@Mike Wins you mentioned in another thread hip hopis dead and one of the reasons for that is because of Drake and Kendrick approaching 40. Why is that a problem?
