That new generation of trap will be a side act until they get a co-sign / torch passing.
Drake is top tier because of the initial Lil Wayne / CashMoney co-sign. It opened up that peak Weezy fanbase and made it "ok" to bump the singing dude from Canada.
Kendrick is top tier because of the Dr. Dre / Interscope torch passing. He went from a great underground rapper to a critically acclaimed Grammy winner.
J.Cole is top tier because of the Jay-Z / Roc Nation co-sign. He's actually gotten the least out of his affiliation and grinded the most on his own, but he wouldn't be top billing status without it.
Until they get one of the big 3 orgs to bring 'em on board/pass the torch, they'll always be side show status.
