In the mid-2000s Jay basically secured his spot as the most important/biggest post-Biggie/Pac rapper. Nas never really built momentum to his career, Eminem was only great for a few years (though he still sells), Kanye is an affiliate/friend so there's not as much direct competition there. So for a while there it looked like Jay-Z would be King of Rap indefinitely. But now here comes Aubrey "Drake" Graham, with song after motherfukking song pretty continuously since 2009.

This thread is about how for while (around 09) it looked like Jay z would dictate rap culture and have rap's ear when he dropped project forever. Because at that time he held this position in rap for longer than anyone ever has and with no hint of anything changing.

Now Drake has become to mainstream rap what Jay z was (Just an omnipresence and bigger than life feeling) No matter who got hot and who was running shyt, there music mattered.

Now Jay z is at the point where no is no fever around him dropping a new project and he isn't sure how to navigate this new landscape.

He has been playing tricks with the general public for quite some time anyway (WTT, Tour with Timberlake, Tour with Bey)

Okay lets pretend we know what Jay Z is thinking. We can't logically pretend he's scared of Drake if he isn't rapping. If he was in fear of Drake taking his spot as one of the biggest rappers then he would simply start rapping again (not no lemonade response).

If Jay Z was worried about that fakkit Drake you think he would've dissed him or start rapping again right?
Mutha fukking hov ain't worried bout these new cats. Drake hasn't spit shyt that can compare to Hov's legendary discography.
And Drake's latest track puts further distance between them. Drake is going down, Hov is continuing to go up.
That's why he's dropping a lemonade response album. He's half a billionaire, he gives no shyts.

Real nikkas know that Jay Z is a better rapper than Drake.

I never said Drake's discography matches Hov's, but Drake been #1 in the rap game for years now and shows no signs of abating. Jay never went up against someone as consistent and ambitious as Drake.

Drake already won so there is no need for this thread. Jay is like 50, and his wife just dropped a diss album about him. He needs to worry about that.
Jay Z has 9 consecutive top rap albums.
He has athletes signed to his roc nation label.
He wrote the blue print in 2 days.
He has 19 grammys.
He has 59 grammy nominations.
His label roc nation has artist like J. Cole, Big Sean, Rihanna, Kanye West, Grimes,Demi Lovato, DJ Khaled, T.I. and Rita Ora.
He has over 600 billion dollars in net worth. And even more since rappers don't show their entire amount.
He's married to Beyonce who also has half a billion dollars.

I could go on. But Jay Z ain't scared of Drake's puny sales and scary streaming numbers.

Album sales for Jay Z
Studio Album Sales Released Albums Sold
The Best of Both Worlds 2002 1,200,000
The Blueprint 2001 3,500,000
The Dynasty: Roc La Familia 2000 3,000,000
Vol 3 Life and Times of S. Carter 1999 5,000,000

It'll take Drake at least 10 more years to match Jay Z's statistics which probably won't happen if he retires in his 30's. :yeshrug:
Views is just further proof. :yeshrug:

There's 50+ pages for a Jay feature, not even a whole solo song. Even talk of him dropping just a verse garners attention from fans and the media.

Drake's popularity in no way affects Jay's. And thanks to Meek Drake's credibility is forever tarnished as a real MC so his legacy can never approach Jay's either. He's strictly a pop act, and there's nothing wrong with that he makes good music, but he'll never be held in as high regard as Jay is to real rap fans and never considered one of the GOATs.

Only difference is Jay dropped classics and is considered 1 of the most versatile rappers and 1 of the best lyricist
the only similarity is how popular they were
