David Wise said he want his royalities from ya'll nikkas. So basically a whole article crediting Drake with the wave 808's and Heartbreaks started![]()

Miguel could be added to the conversation but I wouldn't say he was the main force for redefining new Rnb. But I agree with what you said 100%.

Missed the point. There's no Take Care before 808's made it possible![]()

Yeah I agree. And since you mentioned The Weeknd I always wanted to hear him over this have one of his producers remix it a bit though tbh.I was thinking Miguel too because he's just as talented as the three and I consider them the "Big 3" of mainstream R&B in this era but like you said, he didn't shift the genre with his sound, although he uniquely added his own touch to modern R&B.
The Weeknd and his low life, synth heavy, sample based ambient "dark" moody sound defined an era from 2011 to onward.
You can't listen to any new R&B track or artist and not here elements of what the Weeknd added to the game. Even to the lyrics and the content he changed. He made it cool for an artist be fukked up on drugs, drowning in their own fear and insecurity and letting the music show that. Although R.Kelly and the Dream were pretty explicit in their lyrics before Weeknd, Abel really took some of the raunchiness to a new level. I didn't mind this at first because it was a new side of R&B that was more raw, I personally don't like it now. Even listening to Teyana Taylor new album... every song is an explicit sex track and this didn't exist before from female artist. They all still sang about sex but the lyrics weren't so in your face and it had a subtlety to it... the Weeknd ripped that away and ushered in that new level of fukkery in his lyrics

and if thats the case, then you credit Andre 3000.Missed the point. There's no Take Care before 808's made it possible![]()
