They are, but physical album sales are/were as well. Let's not sit here and pretend like record companies were buying albums in bulk just to let them sit in a warehouse and collect dust. They were being manipulated as well. Just not as easily as streams.

Facts. But you could "feel" how huge Snoop, 50, Wayne was (super duper pause) even without checking their numbers...especially Snoop and 50. Drake aint that. It's a moot topic tho, you right.

I totally agree, but unfortunately it's the changing of the times in that there aren't any "major" superstars these day IMO compared to years past. Even Michael Jackson wouldn't be as big today because the way people consume music and have access to celebrities is completely different now. The aurora about them just isn't there anymore to make them larger than life.

Because people live vicariously through both artists and think one person's success = their success and end up taking it way more seriously than it actually is. It's validation seeking, they can't just look at things and go, "it's not for me personally, but I respect your opinion and tastes." They don't like the music unless everybody else likes it, then they're all over it, and that's strange. It's numbers this, critical reception that, and none of it ever seems to be based on what actually matters -- the quality of the music. The metrics are fun to talk about, but if numbers and critics were all that mattered, then Taylor Swift is killing almost everybody out here.

Of course Drake is going to do high numbers, because he's Drake. The expectations are there, and he's had a pretty normal album roll-out. On top of that, he hasn't largely pissed people off between the release of Scorpion and now, and the beef he has with Kanye is inevitably going to make people curious about what he's gonna say on there. It also helps that CLB isn't a bad album either. It's not a classic, but it has all the typical tropes of what you'd expect from a Drake album. And if that's what you love about his music, it's all there, even if he's walking on familiar ground for most of it. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing either, if done correctly. Whether you feel it was or not is up to the listener's opinion.

I understand this but the levels can be mad weird lol, and I'll even admit that I'm guilty of this at times. It makes no sense for Drake fans to get hostile towards Nas fans and vice versa, because they aren't even rivals...I enjoyed the Nas album...and the Kanye album...and the Drake album. They all got exactly what they wanted if not more, Nas got pretty much universal acclaim and the other two got sales and domination of trends for a significant amount of time.

CLB is a step up from Scorpion (W2S aside, but that song is fulfilling it's purpose tho so eh), as is Donda, as is KD2, as is The Off Season, as is CMIYGL, and there's so many more out there. We as hip hop fans are eating unbelievably well this year, we should be celebrating that instead of these unnecessary Stan wars.

I know, it's not even plausible...I'm just sayin his popularity is damn near completely based on his streams...and we all know streams are fishy af.

He's a big dog tho no doubt, more power to him...he aint THAT tho. I don't even think he's bigger than Kendrick, tbh
Not true. He was doing big numbers with take care in the cd era.

Y’all dudes need to learn how to hate lol

hate on a album that debut 5th but than vanishes from the the 200 in less than a month. It’s idiotic to hate on a 2nd week of 200k :mjlol:

If 220k was a 1st week. It still would be one the biggest of the year
