This is what these Drake stans an apologists try to resort to but they never have receipts. They start talking about how everybody does it and go into all kinds of mental gymnastics like "who thought he was writing his raps?" or "nobody ever took him serious as a rapper anyway" when that's just not the truth.
Someone may have posted it before me at some point, but when the whole Meek/Drake shyt when down I'm the one that threw it up in the thread and also posted screen shots of DM's between Drake and Hush which I believe was dated around 09.
Comparing him to Dre/Puffy? When did either of them ever try to vie for rap supremacy? They tell you in their music and interviews that they aren't MC's, yet "last name ever, first name greatest"?
He literally has rhymes about how authentic his pen game is, how it's "all me" ect. He was clearly going beyond just being the voice and into trying to establish a legacy in Hip Hop.
He may still chart and make catchy shyt that nikkas will listen to but THAT...that shyt is over with. It's not even the fact that he's being written for at this point, he wouldn't be the first or the last in that regard...it's that he tried so hard to get the respect in that lane instead of just doing his Will Smith thing, being content with being a pop tart.
