Objectively, it was a bad choice for a first single after 5 album pushbacks. This is pretty much a unanimous decision.

And before that, he dropped Search and Rescue which was also luke warm. The AI songs getting better reception than his organic ones has him discombobulated. He will probably figure it out.

He needs to do an AI song and just rip the lyrics lol

He'll never do an interview again that isn't completely controlled and designed for whatever album or tour rollout he's doing. Same with Beyonce, Weeknd, Taylor Swift, Kendrick, and virtually all the other big acts.

Which of course is a shame because art is important, as is listening to artists discuss their process among other things. Michael Jackson gave countless interviews when he was a superstar, which still offer insight into life and music. Same can be said of David Bowie, Madonna, and others. I don't think artists should be expected to explain their art ("what did you mean by..."), of course. That would be ridiculous. But listening to them discuss their music and the process is a societal benefit IMO.

The media is a much different landscape now.
NOBODY would have asked MJ Madonna or David Bowie some outta pocket azz questions like they do now cuz now too many media outlets are less interested in what you're doing and more interested in getting an unscripted reaction.
This is where the "hot take" was birthed - who cares about facts/stats when its all about the reaction to the statement.
There is a wide gap between interviewers who are asking about the process of making art and those who just want tea spilled.
Can you imagine if Beyonce went on Howard Stern (Stern from like 10-15yrs ago) - he would definitely say/ask something WAY outta pocket and the reaction would go viral for sure. Howard aint even that outta pocket anymore but media folks are vicious now.
And agents/reps//PR firms no longer have the leverage to threaten interviewers with "you'll never get another A-lister on this show" because the majority of interviewers aren't worried about long-term reputation, just the clout/clicks. And nowadays there aren't enough A-listers to go around under the age of 50 in any genre of art/music if we being real about it.

This just proved Charlemagne’s point.

The fact it went number 1 the first week and then slipped to number 12 the 2nd week says ALOT.

Thats very alarming for Aubrey cause that usually NEVER happens to him. Usually his singles stay within the top 10 during the 2nd week and then within time they slowly drop off.

This just proves that folks literally just rushed to listen to the song just off name value, probably listened a few more times that day or through out the week, and then moved on. The radio plays when it premiered helped it even more. Charlemagne said on “Brilliant Idiots” that iHeartRadio played that record every hour on the hour when it dropped.

That also proves that Drake thought that he could ride SZA’s wave since she topping the charts lately along with that rumor going on Tik tok that him and SZA had a secret “beef.” He thought that would keep him floating..

That’s why he lashed out at Charlemagne cause he knew he was right..

And he also knows that his reign on top is slowly coming to an end.. :sas2:
