He basically said you can make it in Hip Hop while living in your own town.

Didn't see any diss to NY :francis:

Gucci's influence is overstated, she was signed to a minor label, Wayne discovered Nicki and had her on Da Drought 3 in '07. She had a song for a WWE wrestler in '04, a few mixtapes and got discovered by Wayne watching NY street DVD's. How did Gucci start her career?
I thought she signed to Gucci around the same time Waka did

I just seen that today.

Big ass billboard with Rakim, Nas, Big and Drake.

Rakim is the reason why nikkas ain't rapping like the 80s.

Nas dropped what is arguably the greatest rap album of all time.

BIG was the king of New York and is a lyrical icon.

Drake makes hit songs.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
Can't really dispute what he saying. NY isnt really needed in the grand scheme of things. I mean for up and comers its cool to do Breakfast Club/Hot 97 interviews but it isnt really necessary. I mean NY cant even break their own artists successfully anymore (Troy Ave cant even sell 8K physical copies in a city with 8 million people :mjlol:)
which we all know is the truth... he said ny cause that is actually what you did before

for one, all of the labels were in ny.. that's still pretty much true

two, there was no internet, so if you didn't live or have ties in ny, your music and name and what you was about, wasn't gonna reach ny anyway

three, the radio stations/DJs in ny was IT... you get bombs dropped on flex and you got a hit.. you get on a clue mixtape, you're on...

now you can upload whole albums from your basement in wyoming... you don't need to go to NY.. you don't need to go to any city.. but NY was the place to go so he used that
