Drake wouldn't be as hot as he is if he'd signed to a different label..

That record sales thread had me thinking.
If Drake didn't get signed to Cash Money, I don't think he'd be in the same position as he's in now.

After he was signed, he managed to have a song which featured some of the hottest rappers in 09 (Kanye, Weezy & Eminem)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but out of the current hottest rappers (Drake, Cole and Kendrick) he was the only one granted an opportunity like that.

Sure, Cole had a couple of Jay features but he built up a large amount of his fanbase before becoming top tier and Jay wasn't precisely hot, was he?

Kendrick was never with a big artist (Let's be honest, no one cared about a Dre feature) and he had the Eminem feature a year after GKMC dropped.

So, in lamens terms, Drake was dealt a better hand than both K Dot and Cole. If he was signed to literally any other record label, he could've flopped but since it was Cash Money, he has a straight path.

Agree?

Wayne saw Drake getting hype and called HIM bruh

Drake was the only one singing and rapping in 2009 without auto-tune ,actually making love songs n shyt, he was risky to sign cause people said his sound wasnt gonna work dude was in his own lane.

Yall going out of yall way to discredit the guy

What's your point? I'm trying to say that without that specific label, he wouldn't be where he is now.

:beli:
i think he would be tbh
Nicki was heavily influenced by wayne
Drake had his own sound,
his own producers a totally different fanbase etc he woulda been straight imo

I still don't think he'd be as hot as he is now:manny: he had the hottest features and the top record label at the time

Lmfao breh you realize there was a bidding war to sign him right
we got fools who just got into rap hating on drake smh it ain't just old heads anymore
I've been listening to rap for 4-5 years, is that really considered just getting into it?:usure:
Stopped reading there
:dwillhuh:He went platinum this year though. How you gonna call Kendrick hot but Cole not?
He would've been legit either way but I do think the Wayne consign helped. Wayne's stardom around that time was insane, but it's not like he was pushing Gudda Gudda or some shyt, Drake was about to pop off anyways.
At least someone understood what I was getting at.

4-5 years :deadmanny:

In late 08, I was a freshman at a well known HBCU....my nikka said "u know Drake?"....I said "naw who that, he live on this floor?" :leostare:.....

then he played this track

and soon after the Drake era began....later I found out girls already knew him from a show called Degrassi that I never watched....he woulda been hot and have his current hits today anyways, the Wayne collaborations just got him fans quicker in the beginning...

Drake wasn't at his peek on that though. And there was also many other artists on that album. Same with Take Care. He has had a lot of featured acts.
That expands the fanbase.

If Drake didn't sign to the most popular rapper at the moment, he wouldn't become the most popular rapper out? :ohhh:
