4-5 years :deadmanny:

In late 08, I was a freshman at a well known HBCU....my nikka said "u know Drake?"....I said "naw who that, he live on this floor?" :leostare:.....

then he played this track

and soon after the Drake era began....later I found out girls already knew him from a show called Degrassi that I never watched....he woulda been hot and have his current hits today anyways, the Wayne collaborations just got him fans quicker in the beginning...

same here, its crazy how nobody fukked with him then everybody was fake degrassi fans

Drake said himself on mad songs that labels passed him up before, and how could signing to the hottest most influential rapper of that time NOT have shaped his career now. Drake wasn't on songs with nikkas like Em and Kanye before Lil Wayne and even nikkas like Gucci only fukked with him because of Cash Money, if it wasn't for their street cred at the time there's no way he would've had the same impact. You nikkas brazy, as usual :heh:

That record sales thread had me thinking.
If Drake didn't get signed to Cash Money, I don't think he'd be in the same position as he's in now.

After he was signed, he managed to have a song which featured some of the hottest rappers in 09 (Kanye, Weezy & Eminem)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but out of the current hottest rappers (Drake, Cole and Kendrick) he was the only one granted an opportunity like that.

Sure, Cole had a couple of Jay features but he built up a large amount of his fanbase before becoming top tier and Jay wasn't precisely hot, was he?

Kendrick was never with a big artist (Let's be honest, no one cared about a Dre feature) and he had the Eminem feature a year after GKMC dropped.

So, in lamens terms, Drake was dealt a better hand than both K Dot and Cole. If he was signed to literally any other record label, he could've flopped but since it was Cash Money, he has a straight path.

Agree?
This is too circumstantial to make a conclusion like that. If anything, Cash Money did their job for Drake. The proper thing to say is no other labels may not have worked as hard for Drake to be at his current level.

Drake was the only one singing and rapping in 2009 without auto-tune ,actually making love songs n shyt, he was risky to sign cause people said his sound wasnt gonna work dude was in his own lane.

Yall going out of yall way to discredit the guy
Nah no he wasn't cudi was doing that whole singing and raping shyt first if I'm not mistaken

I still don't think he'd be as hot as he is now:manny: he had the hottest features and the top record label at the time

I've been listening to rap for 4-5 years, is that really considered just getting into it?:usure:

:dwillhuh:He went platinum this year though. How you gonna call Kendrick hot but Cole not?

At least someone understood what I was getting at.

CMON BREH :deadrose: Classic downplay.

One has the most successful rapper in hip hop history as a cosign with access to his resources, while the other has the richest producer in hip hop history as a cosign with access to his resources.

But somehow Drake had way more help, right? :mjlol:

Duck, Snore and Fake all had enormous help. Probably more help than any other rapper of the last 5-10 years

fukk that. They all were dealt a better hand than KRIT.

Drake had Wayne
Cole had Jay
Kendrick had Dre

Who KRIT got besides a :flabbynsick: Def Jam machine

Obviously Drake benefited becasue Wayne and Young Money was on top of the world at the time and that helped Drake. Drake's talent kept him relevant and catapulted him to is current status though. Being jewish and half white didnt hurt either.:mjpls:

With that being said Cole got Jay..kinda.:lolbron:

Drake is a bi-racial actor.

Yes, but what's going to be more useful?
A record label on top of the game, with money and hot artists on it, a record label that was new and a washed rapper or a record label with a GOAT producer?

comparing them is a waste of time. Too many variables, and variables that can't be measured accurately.

How can you say Jay-Z was washed when he put Cole on BP3, which had his biggest single ever? Cole had tons of looks. so did Drake and Kendrick.

You know who didn't though and blasted into the game outta nowhere strictly off the strength of his music? :troll: that's right.... that avi y'all love to hate
