So due to technology, we can't have superstars today? I'm still shocked at how hard it is for old people to understand that sales = consumption = billboards. Cats consume music in different ways, should billboard just choose one of those way? Eventhough both generate the exact same bread. How the hell is it marketing purposes to make 18 bucks per equivalent sale from Tidal? I.e. More than a physical sale or in general the exact same amount, there of the word equivalent.
The only problem I see with this new thing is that singles are counted, individual songs should be counted but not official singles. That'll reflect how commercially successful the album is.

but it's a different level of investment when fans had to line up to buy a record
possibly driving all around town looking for somewhere it wasn't sold out etc.
