Not a proper album release? Does not matter one bit. Was the album not available for retail sale? Were the singles not charting? Did they not get radio play? Did Drake not have one of the most popular singles of the summer?

in 2015 Drake had significantly more material released than Adele . . significantly more material released than Taylor Swift . . and yet his publishing numbers absolutely pale in comparison. How about his previous catalog? Are you going to make the dimwitted case that Drake is the only artist in the world not earning publishing money from his previous catalog?


Now this @spinoza clown is going to try to do a 180 on his entire existence and try to argue that the music Drake put out in 2015 wasn't successful. He's going to try to make the claim that none of the music really happened. The releases were just a figment of our imagination

Her last album had a few "controlled compositions" (meaning she wrote 100% of the song music + lyrics). She is mostly working with Max Martin and his cohort Shellback, a former understudy of his who seems to be his go-to guy for more rock and acoustic orientated collaborations . . Max Martin is the most successful pop songwriter of the last 20 years by far. Her most current album is the manifestation of her mainstream pop leanings the last album where she scored her first #1 with a Max Martin production. That album was a similar situation. 1-2 cowriters sharing a writing credit with her producer on most songs but prior to that album her entire album was written by her.

The fact that Drake is WILLING to share so much of his songwriting credits when there's so much money to be made from his fanbase tells you that there's an effort to maintain the quality of his work. He could easily just cash in if he wrote the whole thing but he might not be capable of doing that to a standard that would maintain his fanbase and ultimately the touring is going to outweigh the publishing anyway so maintaining a standard of music that is going to keep people buying tickets to his shows is the more important priority. You also see he is one of the only people making over a million off streaming. He probably has a very solid deal worked out with Apple Music for those streaming rights. When you don't factor in the mechanical royalty, him lacking in publishing revenue doesn't effect his album sale royalties he gets so if they are writing him a good single that is going to move units and tickets it's a good trade-off business wise
