you must have mixed nikka hair... your shyt aint gonna loc for atleast 18 months:yeshrug:.

I had locs for ~2 yrs cut em, and regrew em out back in 2014. Every week is too much. Once every 2 weeks is good when you have twists she finessin you:manny:

Dreads not be for you if you're worried about this. You gonna have to go thru 3 different stages

You're going to have thin, breaking locs if you allow ANYONE to retwist weekly. Stop that shyt now. You should be able to go at least 4-8 weeks between a retwist/interlock session. There's not enough new growth for you to need a retwist weekly any damn way!

Your locs are suppose to look frizzy. They're baby locs. Allow your hair the time to go thru that ugly ass in-between stage.

8 years this November :blessed:

But yeah, learn how to do it yourself because she's robbing you AND fukking up your hair by retwisting that often

It's wouldn't be harder per say it would just take longer and you might have to go get it maintained more often and go a longer period of time between washes.

You out here spending $200 a month for starter locs?

Youre gonna have to embrace the beginning stage and let your hair grow. Find a new stylist, only an idiot will tell you to come once a week, thats going to leave you broke and bald with Young Thug dreadlocks.

You can retwist dreads yourself, you definitely shouldn't be paying 200 for a retwist EVER. You shouldn't be getting them retwisted once a week because you hair will fall out. Get another loctician because she's scamming you. I ain't had dreads since 2010, but my retwists were never more than 80 from a licensed loctician. It should only take about 2-3 months for your hair to lock up, and in that time period you should probably only get retwisted 2 or 3 times

I had locs for over a year now.

That whole thing about coming every week is a money grab. Interlocking you shyt, especially this early, will probably cause holes in your locs so you wanne watch that. All that shyt she's doing isn't gonna make your hair loc up any faster.

Having dreads is a patience thing, you can't rush it. Instead of going every week, just palm roll your dreads yourself. If you feel one coming loose just roll it between your palms a few times and keep moving.

I have a bunch of videos by my loc stylist who's really informative on the process I can drop for you.

Cuz you gettin finessed :mjlol: "Come every week I got you" :mjlol:

I started about 6 months ago so I'll give you some game for the starter journey. First, $50 is a good price, you should never pay over $60 imo. Keep the durag on at night during the first month.

For me, I got my first retwist 2 months after I first twist. Your hair isn't going to look good anyway, so you might as well save bread and just let it grow out. My hair grows fast (needed a cut every week and a half when I had a ceasar), so after that first retwisted they were already falling.

After they fall I would retwisted every month or so to keep it neat. They should also give you a god wash included. I didn't wash my hair at all before my dreads really loc'd so that would be my monthly wash. After you get some hangtime you can palm roll your own to keep them neat.

Just a young man's advice, good luck on the journey, it will teach you patience :win:

Edit: Also, getting twisted every week is terrible for locking process. People forget that half of your locs are the hair that naturally falls out and gets stuck in the dread. Having someone do your hair every week is knocking a lot of hair out that you need.
:salute::salute::salute:

I really appreciate all the advice guys. I just felt I was being taking advantage of and I'm glad you guys confirmed it. And @Amy Traphouse yes if you can PLEASE pm the videos you have, I really appreciate it.

A friend of mine has a lady that locks hair, and he told her about my situation and last night he called me and told me she said I was getting fukked over as well. The lady who has been doing my hair knew I didn't know anything about dreads and she was getting over, but she can go to hell now. Again thanks for all the great advice guys.

And you can check his channel for more videos.
Stop going to the lady before you're in too deep with some fukked up dreadlocks

Ok here's another question. This past Thursday she said she interlocked a lot of them. As far as the growth process, will another loctitian be able add to that in a few weeks or will I have to start all the way over?

Interlocking is a skill all locticians should have, so you shouldn't worry about starting over.

i don't know about these 'dreads' you seem to speak on but i myself have luxury locs:blessed:

and i was getting finessed as you are presently , and i say that to say this you should go every 2 weeks in starting process... normally you shouldn't interlock only twist and interlock when its just absolutely needed. i can show pics of my hair , and although I'm not from harlem, I'm harlem influenced and showing your hair to another man is a no no :dame:

but ya its definitely expensive to maintain , once it locks you should be good to go.. what type of hair you got u 9 ether?
