This goes back to the innovate or antiquate adage

I’d be honored to be among the last that worked a profession

Our society has people clinging to things not worth clinging to

It’s like cars putting horse and buggy out of business

If toll booth workers get replaced by a machine, it’s not like those jobs were meaningful to the human spirit - trucking could be seen as spiritually enriching though as it is somewhat like a road cowboy

But what’s next after this … railroad workers? The only thing keeping that from reality is a union agreement
Plus society always adapts and evolves and eventually benefits from innovation.
New jobs are created just as quickly as old ones go extinct. I made a lot of money in highschool selling bootleg cd's that wouldn't have been possible if people were still using vinyl. and that need later was replaced and i moved on to other hustles

should I still get my cdl?
You can still make a career of it. But you would need to own your own truck and do smaller jobs like towing or doing deliveries as an independent contractor for smaller companies who can't afford to have their own fleet of AI vehicles. Somebody buying a prebuilt shed from some amish construction company is still going to need human drivers to make deliveries. Coca Cola delivering soda across 50 states from various warehouses/factories is the type of business that will move over to AI.

Sounds like trickle done economics to me :mjpls:
He spitting doe.

Ask your parent how expensive a tv was when they were kids vs renty.

Our modern society is fukked. Our "luxury" items are relatively affordable, with multiple ways to purchase them.

Our "necessity" items are expensive and become more expensive every year.

not wanting something to happen and stopping it from happening are not the same thing

if you've paid any attention to automation, warehousing, shipping, and distro the past 10 years then like.... this ain't even a surprise lol. bets have already been hedged fr

Guess yall didn't watch the whole vid. They already launched in April of this year.

As far as regulation, good thing they got the perfect president to fast track that. The company only put drivers back behind the wheel because shyt gets dangerous off the highway (Can't just go in a straight line anymore.).

I expect way more of these in about two-three years, easy. Trump does what he does, would be sooner.

Again, Aurora already launched for Texas in April 2025

Yea they launched and then they immediately had to add humans back into the cars.

I agree about the ease of regulation, and especially in Texas. That’s why I included that caveat. It could happen.

Technology gonna advance regardless. Yall would've been here in the 1980s bemoaning typewriter repair techs losing work :mjlol:

autonomous driving is the future,
I see a lot of those Waymo cars on the road.I was skeptical in the beginning, but now I'm convinced they drive better than humans.
