im not a cool guy anymore
Ok, to start, I am not a musician. I have a couple Gibson guitars that I fukk around with (trying to teach myself enough to play punk) ... but I'm under no illusion that I'll ever be better than really, really bad.
My son, on the other hand, has some chops. He plays guitar and writes lyrics (mostly standard pop/rock stuff ... but I think he has tried to write raps also).
So, I'm looking to get him a drum machine (or some software that would serve the same purpose). My primary priority is for him to be able to loop drum (maybe bass) accompaniment for his songs ... but, if he wants to screw around and try making beats, I'd be happy to hear that, too.
Any recommendations as to what to buy? I've been looking at the entry-level Korg Volca series, and the entry-level Akai drum machines. i have no idea if there's decent software out there for him to create drum tracks/loops.
I don't really want to invest too much to start. But, I'd also rather he create his own drum tracks, as opposed to just downloading loops from garage band or whatever.
Anyway, I'd appreciate any advice. And I'll dap or rep or whatever, if that sort of thing matters.
and, of course, if I'm totally in the wrong place for this question ... ignore, neg, or whatever people do.
