Hakeem's probably the most skilled big man I've seen play. He legit looked like a 7"0 guard with his handles :francis: I don't even want to imagine Hakeem right now in this watered down big man league :francis:

He was still the most important player in that system until last year.

A case can be made that he still is :ehh:

TONY PARKER HAS ONE OF FINALS MVP AND KAWHI LEANORD HAS ANOTHER....HAKEEM WOULDA WON 7 MINIMUM PLAYING ON THOSE SPURS TEAMS FOR POPS. DUNCAN IS GREAT, BUT HIS CIRCUMSTANCES TOOK HIM TO THE NEXT LEVEL. IMAGINE IF HE WAS DRAFTED BY MINNESOTA AND SPENT A MAJORITY OF HIS PRIME THERE ALA KEVIN GARNETT. PLAYER FOR PLAYER, AS OTHERS MENTIONED, HAKEEM DID BASICALLY EVERYTHING BETTER THAN DUNCAN...AND IT'S NOT CLOSE. DUNCAN ALSO PLAYED A GOOD PORTION OF HIS CAREER IN AN ERA WHERE BIGS WERE NOT DOMINATING ALA THE 80S-EARLY 90S. HAKEEM IS A TOP 7-3 PLAYER. DUNCAN IS SOMETHIN LIKE TOP 15-11....BARELY SCRATCHIN TOP 10.

throw that system talk into the bushes. There was no system until after the spurs 4th championship. It was Duncan surrounded by shooters and the main play from pop was 4 down, which meant throw it into Duncan and watch him go to work or pass out to the open shooter. That worked for 4 championships. The system was put into place after that.

in 07 the spurs toughest matchup was against the suns and Duncan was easily the best player in that series. That was the real finals of that year. The 4 game sweep of the weak ass cavs didn't mean shyt for whoever won that finals mvp.
and in 14, the toughest team in their way was okc. and of course Duncan was the best player in that series. He gave ibaka that work in ot of game 6 willing his team to the win. Heat was played out in 4 out of 5 easy blow out games.
And in 13, he was the best player in those playoffs for the spurs. If it wasn't for ray allen, he would have 6 chips right now. but even without that its still 5>2

I'll prob get Negged or something but I always found Hakeem a bit overrated
I feel like he got hot at the right time (pretty much in the playoffs) the 1st ring. Kind of like Dirk/Mavs 2011.
And the 2nd one the Bulls and Sonics got eliminated early. I'm not saying he didn't deserve it and he is still easily an all time great but id take prime Admiral over him, despite that series.

Popovich in 2014: “Every time I walk around the house, once a month, I tell my wife, 'Say thank you, Tim.' Before you start handing out applause and credit to anyone else in this organization for anything that's been accomplished, remember it all starts with and goes through Timmy. As soon as he (retires), I'll be 10 steps behind. Because I'm not stupid.”

but according to the-coli its "Duncan is the product of a system, a player created by pop and the front office. carried by his supporting cast"

YOU OBVIOUSLY A SPURS APOLOGIST LOL....DUNCAN IS NOT THE SYSTEM. HE'S DEFINITELY A BIG PART OF IT. BUT DUNCAN WINNING WITH FIRST DAVID ROBINSON, THEN TONY PARKER+MANU GINOBLI, AND MOST RECENTLY KAWHI LEANORD IS NOT EQUAL TO HAKEEM WINNING WITH OTIS THORPE AND VERNON MAXWELL.

HE'S NOT THE PRODUCT, HE'S A CENTERPIECE...BUT THE POINT WERE MAKING IS THAT HAKEEM DIDNT HAVE THE SAME LUXURIES AS DUNCAN FOR THE ENTIRE DURATION OF HIS CAREER. AND TO DENY THAT IS FLAT OUT RETARDED, SO STOP.

You think it's a huge gap? :francis:

I think it's pretty damn close. Prime Duncan was pretty damn unguardable from 15 feet and in so its not like Hakeem just shyts on him offensively. Hakeem's edge is slight

Duncan is also the best defensive anchor who doesn't have a DPOTY too.
Do you understand how good of a defensive player hakeem was? i dont think you do.

and remember hakeem has actually done the reverse of what tim has done.
Tim is the size of a CENTER. yet he has played a ton of his career at PF. so he could be too long for his defenders.

Where as hakeem was never 7 feet, not even close. yet he played Center almost if not the entire time he played in the nba.

hakeem schooled shaq. not saying shaq didnt get his. but he still schooled him and shaq even admitted it.

There's only two bigs better than hakeem and thats probably wilt, and Kareem. thats it.

hakeem won two rings with a bunch of role players(solid ones, but role guys) .and hakeem won them back 2 back. something timmy has never done. which means timmy cant win it all when he has that bullseye on his back and is the hunted team. hakeem did that.

Arguments against Duncan always begin with him being lucky to have coach pop and the system. I never hear arguments against Jordan, shaq, or kobe for having the goat coach phil Jackson and the triangle offense.
