So what would you call his last 4 games? Maybe the term shutdown was harsh, but clearly his production tailed after game 2.

your right he didn't get "shutdown" per say, but malone did a great job on him. Yes he got doubled a lot and hedo sucked that series along with devon brown and those other guys.

However in the last 4 games (Where they lost each one) here are his numbers

Game 3 - 4-14 10 points on 29% shooting in a blowout lost
Game 4 - 5-13 19 points on 39% shooting in a 8 point loss
Game 5 - 7-15 21 points on 47% shooting in a single digit loss. He pulled down 21 rebounds this game.
Game 6 - 7-18 21 points on 39% shooting in a must win game.

Let's not act like he was giving the lakers 30-15 on 60% shooting and his teammates stunk it up

He was carrying that team on both ends and hit two huge shots in Shaq's mug that under any other circumstances would have put his team up 3-2 with game 7 at home. He was going against Kobe and Shaq, and flabby yet still effective GP and Malone and his starting lineup included no jumpers Parker, Hedo, Bruce Bowen, and Rashooooooooooo Nesterovic. What more do you really expect him to do in that situation? He was supposed to dominate two HOFers in the low block while nobody on his squad gave them any reason to pay attention to anyone other than him? Dream had less than stellar series too (everybody has) so I'm not sure what your point is in belaboring this.

I'm gonna say this...I think defense is a wash or goes to Duncan. As good as Hakeem was and as good as those stats look, Duncan was absolutely an equal force.

Duncan wasn't trying to go for blocks, steals, etc. He was consistently contesting and altering shots, being a great anchor, and cutting off passing lanes.

Duncan has been an elite defensive anchor in multiple decades plus he's been just as effective amid all the rule changes that opened up the lanes for perimeter players. He's also been killing dudes offensively despite all the rule changes that kept popping up.

I think Duncan would have been ever better in Hakeem's time.

Timmy and I don't even understand why it would be close...

If I take a young Timmy I can surround him with aging players (Robinson) and a bunch of borderline bums...I'll win rings (Timmy did that)

Can you say the same for Hakeem?

If I take a prime Timmy it doesn't really matter what I put around him...point guards who can't shoot (avery and early career tony parker), Big men who have no real discernible skill (every big man next to Timmy since Robinson except for Splitter LAST YEAR) euro league players learning how to play in the nba (manu was a turnover machine early in his career...ending his career as a turnover machine)...wings players who have no more than two real skills (sean ellliot shooting, Bruce Bowen defense and shooting, Captain Jack and his nuts, ) I'll win rings (Timmy did that)

Can you say the same for Hakeem?

If I take an old past his prime can barely run left leg doesn't work half the time Timmy, change my offense to and up tempo 3 point shooting fest, and ask Timmy to primarily work as my defensive anchor and rebounder...I'll win at least 1 ring (Timmy did that)...

Can you say the same for Hakeem...

Kareem and/or Wilt are the only big men I am ever considering taking over Timmy...every time the argument comes up I ask

1. As a rookie and young player can you put him on a team and win a ring?
2. In his prime can he bee the focal point of everything you do on both ends of the floor and win a ring?
3. Can he age gracefully, change his game to match an ever evolving NBA, and win a ring?

Timmy did all three in real life, so I need whatever big man he is being compared to, to do it in hypothetical life...

I seem to be one of the few people on planet earth who remembers Hakeem's Raptor years...

The question isn't...Who do yo pick Duncan or insert random name here...

The question is...Ca insert random name here be the catalyst for winning 50 games a year for 18 years, win a total of 5 chips, with some coming in his younger years, some coming in his prime years, and one coming at the end of his career?

Cause if you don't think you can do that with insert random name here...then how could he be better?

People don't talk about how lucky the Spurs were for drafting Duncan due to David Robinson's previous injury.. That 96-97 tanking losing season helped the Spurs like a motherfukker because the Spurs were already a 500 team when David Robinson was healthy.

Spurs the only NBA team to tank and have it work perfectly...

Turned one player into an 18 year run of excellence and 5 chips...

Meanwhile the sixers trying to hoard 3 of the top 5 big men to come out in the last 3 years and can't win 30 games a year yet...

lol so dream wasn't a franchise changing talent either? They were both drafted #1 but their situations were different. The spurs were a perennial 55-60 win team in the years before they tanked to get duncan. Had tim went to a real lottery team say the celtics i guarantee you they wouldn't of won 50 games every year and won the title their second year.

Imagine a team like the hawks (could never get over the hump like the spurs) tanking and landing akeem in the 84 draft to pair with Nique and those boys.
They may not have. But Tim would have the dominant numbers that these other greats had early in their careers when they weren't playing for titles and still trying to find themselves. Tim may not have had all the moves that Dream did but he was just as much a defensive anchor as Hakeem and I know if he wanted to he could have averaged 27/14 a game if that was in his makeup as a player.

His Airness himself Michael Jordan even said that Hakeem Olajuwon was better than Shaq.
Yo thats a point i completely missed

The discussion back in the day was who was better Shaq or Olajuwon

Here we are in 2015 and millennials that never watched him like that asking if he's as good a Tim Duncan :mjlol::scust:..

How old are you???
I highly doubt you watched Hakeem even play :francis:
Have no other rebuttal so accuse me of never having seen Hakeem play :umad:

I'm 24 and distinctly remembering Dream ether my whole household as a kid back in SA.

Plus there's shyt called film nikka, I've been able to watch Hakeem in action plenty of times. Man is a legend and I'll never say otherwise

But you ain't winning this argument though lil buddy :umad:

Plus I didn't even mention Tim got more All Defensive Team selections though Hakeem and Shaq:youngsabo:
