HBO is on some real a$$hole shyt.

and if they take the HOTD route, watch them try to stretch this bullshyt while taking off years between seasons.
These are very short stories this show is based on. GRRM himself is the one telling them to adapt it accurately which means short seasons that dont have filler. Back when people used to speculate about future spinoffs, everyone thought the Dunk and Egg stories would be 2 hour films at most. No one thought tv shows because they are simple short stories. They aren't sprawling epics like the main novels.

And I doubt they take that long between seasons if only because the kid actor needs to stay a kid through the 3 seasons covering the 3 books.

Six episodes :why:

It's based on a collection of novellas, short stories basically. There are three of them written so far, with one likely written and unreleased (The She-Wolves Of Winterfell). Without giving spoilers they're like adventure stories with Game Of Thrones-type fukkery. The first one is set around 90 years before the start of Game Of Thrones, and as it progresses you start seeing some GOT characters.

You may remember the name, it was mentioned in one of the GOT seasons. "Egg, I dreamed that I was old."

It depends, if the 6 episodes are actually an hour long and it's crack then I'm fine with it. No filler. These shows are expensive. If there's filler in there then that's another story

yeah but these streaming services are getting more and more expensive as well. them thinking they can retain a huge subscriber base without putting out consistent content seems like a bit of a stumble.

So this and HOD S3are both coming in 26. I thought they would alternate years. I wonder why this got pushed back.

To me the delay suggested HBO/Max isn't sold on the show and is hoping close proximity to HOTD will help it, ratings/buzz wise. I've said it before but a major selling point for GOT was dragons. The show's popularity exploded once audiences realized it was more than just swords and shields. This is a big reason I felt adapting the Dance Of Dragons was the best possible choice for a second show: lots of dragons. Well there are no dragons in Dunk & Egg. I'm just not sold this show is going to be able to last.

Other thing that concerns me is that suddenly HBO and all the streamers can't shoot and produce shows on time and on budget. Everything is taking 2+ years now. And it's killing popularity. HOTD S3 is going to heavily suffer from this IMO, especially after how weak the second season was. Low key it seems like HBO is killing the IP.

Wish they did like Slow Horses and just shoot back to back, same with HOTD, get photography and practical stunts done back to back and then it's just post prod.

I'd imagine they have to pretend they don't want to lap Martin for now so he doesn't complain. His comments about HOTD last season did a lot of damage in the fandom. Personally I also think Max wants to stall out as much as possible and wait for him to die, then buy full control from his wife.

There are three completed novellas, each one about 200 pages or so. Martin has said he has mapped out a forth, which will center on the Stark women of Winterfell. Do I expect this show to last long enough to surpass that with a 5th season? I dunno...probably not. But it's not as expensive as other shows so maybe that allows it to last. I assume it'll get more grand in later seasons as you get into bigger settings though.

I never saw the show as a long ongoing thing tbh, only as a 3 seasons thing, if they are waiting for more Novellas then I don't know wtf to tell them :mjlol:

If you asked me does the show get to the end point - Summerhall - I'd say no. We'll see. I'm also curious whether Martin is willing to tell the showrunners what happens. It's one of the biggest mysteries in the entire series and likely has major implications about a lot of stuff (maesters, prophecies, etc). And it also seems very unlikely that Martin will ever get to writing the final novella, unless he just skips there. He's said he would like to do nine total. Is that possible at this point with Winds being a decade plus late, a final book to write etc? Doubt it. He simply ran out of time fukking around.

And again I genuinely think HBO played a role in that because they want to create their own shyt in the world once he's gone. Best way to do that is to distract him with opportunities and shows to obsess over.
