He never developed any type of offensive repertoire. He played in an era with no other bigs, was the most athletic player and still couldn't dominate offensively, and that hurt him. He went to a new team and couldn't even do the same thing as he did in Orlando. Plus every C before and after has put up better numbers. Even his bpg don't measure up.
And the only other legit center in his era (Yao) used to punish him on a regular basis

Dwight played in the weak Center era. So his accolades are a little inflated.

I just think people expected Dwight to be a meaner personality type than he was. Nobody could say he was soft, and he definitely had a mean streak on the court, but the overly goofy personality type was always off putting to alot of the older media heads. Maybe it's because he was borderline dirty and then at the same time goofy the goofiness and all that smiling came off as fake. Idk what it was...

The Magic & Lakers fukked him over

Dwight biggest mistake he made in his professional career was opting in his final year for Orlando … if he did what everybody expected him to do by opting out and becoming a free agent at the end of the season he would’ve teamed up with DWill in Brooklyn and I believe his harsh criticism over the years wouldn’t have been what it has become

In this world where Media dominates narrative, having an "Unlikable Personality" means everything unfortunately. If you are not a robot and slave to these Media corporations, they will act like you don't exist
Let's not act like he was Barry Bonds of NBA with media out to get him :hubie:He always tried to ham it up and be the media darling, it was the people that he worked with that always had issues with him.

Idk about deserving more respect but Dwight had a very respectable if not short-lived prime and a memorable Cinderella like playoff run in 2009.

That said, altho he was better defensively than, say, Anthony Davis... Davis had more clear cut better seasons than Dwight ever did. i.e. from age 20 to 26 (Dwight's last 7 years in ORL)... Dwight's best season during that stretch (2011, 2nd in MVP votes behind Derrick Rose) would be AD's 2nd worst season during the same age range.

You can point to team success and yes, the '09 run was a great story mainly bc of the Cavs series, but obviously KG had a season ending injury and the Pistons were disbanded... so the two teams that sent him home the year before ('08 DET) and after ('10 BOS) left a void in '09.

Dwight gets props for taking advantage of it (you can only play who is in front of you) but of course if we're recognizing team success regardless of context, then the lack of success from 2010 + all the weird shyt that started to come out about him, didn't help his case.

He wasn't the only disliked player in the history of the game. Plenty of people that are hated made the list.

Thank you.

His prime was short (2007-2011), in an era where some of the best bigs were older or never peaked that highly (guys like horford, Aldridge, gasoline, etc. Never were top 5 players in the league the way the old guys like KG and Duncan and Dirk were)

Didn't win a ring, made 1 finals

After 2011, he was just a regular good center, and after 2015 he was forgettable

He probably should have still made the top 75 tho
