I'll take the 5 .

40s debut was in 86, with the clicks first tape "Let's Slide". (on thier own record label ?)

Same year salt and pepper & 2 live crew released their debut tape.

Run dmc released their debut tape in 85.

You telling me y'all throw Snoop in there too?

:francis:

just to be a lil more factual 40's debut was in 88 as MVP The Kings Men:

true story I actually found a copy of this 12" at Amoeba one day, they didn't even know what it was. I gave it to the homie who then gave it to Droop-E cuz none of them had a copy left. historical fukking artifact.

then Lets Side dropped in 1990:

He formed the rap group The Click and once they released their debut EP, Let’s Side, in 1986, his calling was stamped in the hip-hop history books.

E-40's Latest EP, Poverty And Prosperity, Ranked From Best to Worst Song

Let's bring it to YouTube were people are commenting buying the tape from 40 in 88

& Note: I'm not even counting the clicks original name and work (they rebranded)

I think the 90's number you got is when they pressed it to CD.

Vinyl on discogs for The Kingsmen says 1988 on it.

The back cover of the Let’s Side vinyl has 1990 on it.

yeah, I aint tryna be too bold, but I think that XXL article got their facts a lil bit wrong, because in that in that same sentence they say E-40 didnt go to college. In fact B-Le & E-40 both went to Grambling University in Louisiana together in 1986. here's their song they made that got played on the College Radio station every night:

so I mean, this recording proves that yes 40 was rapping in 86. but he wasnt on at all, by any means or really doing anything yet at that time, just fukking around with his friends at school.

they aint release anything official til 88, thats when their Uncle St Charles put that first record out, as MVP. Then after that they mighta had recorded some of the Lets Side material immediately and slung demo tapes of it around in 88-89. Absolutely, but as far as actually officially releasing Lets Side thats 1990. And you can really hear the difference in E-40's delivery between those 2 releases

I guess we all agree 40 been doing it for a long time and stayed relavent while being independent

:wow:

Can't wait till he actually goes in on movies etc.

All he has to do is gather 1000 visuals from his discography and put together a movie .

ND to put a end to the years debate, is it fair to say Snoop doesn't belong in his class ?

He really needs to find different beats. The last few albums sound exactly the same and rhetoric is the same. Last track is dope I wanna hear an album that is a little more polished and goes in different directions.

That being said 40 is still putting out records and relevant. He deserves much props for all that he has done over the last 20 plus years

THATS THE 1 KNOCK ON THE ALBUM .. BEATS WAS A BIT REPETITIVE

Huge 40 fan, but this album really was a let down. The album that dropped with him and B-La was bangin... production was on point. WTF happened here?

reading through the comments it seems like most of yall think this album ain't all that

can't front i'm lovin it though, i think the production slaps and 40 really sounds in his element. who you talkin to don't even make sense how hard it goes on some real hip hop shyt:

Mob manish
This weapon in my possession'll make you vanish
I got potnas that speak Patois and Spanish
And they'll put one in your colon and your pancreas
I'm a top hat, I'm a whale, I'm a fixture, bytch I'm a tyc00n
I drink cognac like Kim Jong Un
You bound to find me chiefin' with my heaters, I'm a patient
Functioning at a party on an Indian reservation
All the youngsters, they love it, they call me dad
'Cause I'm the rawest rapper the West Coast ever had
I sell liquor, music, edibles, and vegetables
I do bar mitzvahs, arenas, and hella festivals
When it comes to my jewelry, it's done right
These rappers got y'all fooled with their diamonds, them ain't real, them moissanites
My paper stuck up, it's conceited
My bank account obese, not bulimic... BIATCH!
