MVP's a popularity contest. Who has the best story. Point blank. Nash wasn't the best player in 2006, Kobe was. Kobe was putting up 35ppg, outscoring entire teams at will. Nash's team didn't have the best record that year either, Detroit did. You could make the argument that Chauncey Billups should've got the MVP instead because he had similar numbers to Nash & 10 more wins (and the
#1 record) to go along with it.
Detroit, 64-18 (2005-06 season)
18ppg, 8ast, 3rbs, 2tos (C. Billups)
Phoenix, 54-28 (2005-06 season)
18ppg, 10ast, 4rbs, 3.5tos (S. Nash)
shyt's a popularity contest. Nash was this scruffy white guy running an exciting offense and doing it without Amare, so people ate the story up. As if he was playing with bums out there. As if Shawn Marion wasn't a problem, and as if that offense wasn't sculpted to suit Nash's skillset & trackstars like Barbosa, Bell & Diaw. Nash wasn't putting up 11, 12 assists a game before he played for PHX and he not doing it now in LA. He flourished in that offense. Also, Duncan had a good year in 06 (SAS was one game behind Detroit) and Wade & the Heat obviously had a good year & the 2nd spot in the East.
If you wanna say Kobe aint deserve it in 2006, that's fine. Your point is valid.....but, I can give you several reasons why Nash aint deserve it either
